Hi I'm Dave

I grew up in Northern Utah, seeking two Master's degrees at Utah State University and have twins, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Northern Utah playing sports throughout high school. My dad was a great businessmen and invested in office buildings so as a kid I was able to work cleaning the inside of those buildings and mostly cutting the lawn and upkeep on the grounds. This provided me a great opportunity to start a mowing business that I ran throughout high school and college. I have almost graduated with two Master's degrees at Utah State University in Human Resources and Business Administration. While the MHR and MBA degrees overlapped one semester, my wife and I had our twins nine weeks early. It was a very trying time in my life as my wife had to live an hour away by the hospital while I stayed in Logan continuing with my education. They stayed in the hospital for 55 days and were released with no major medical issues, which was a blessing. With my degrees I will be working next year in a rotational one year Leadership Development Program. I am very excited for my career, to be a husband and father.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because many truths this church teaches have touched my heart on more than one occasion. I was confused as to why there are so many religions and faiths out there when there is one teaching, the Bible. I learned that God has talked through prophets in every time period like Adam, Moses, Abraham and even Jesus Christ. I wanted to know why we couldn't have that guidance in these days. People can interpret the teachings of the Bible so many ways; some make a more sense then others. When I studied the LDS faith I came to a realization through inspiration and prayer that God has once again called a prophet on the earth to teach us his ways. To obtain this knowledge I read and prayed about the truthfulness of the one piece of evidence we have to obtain this answer, The Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is evidence because Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet and translated this book, which is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know it is a true book as I have read it many times and every time I come seeking an answer, I receive an answer through simple means. If this book is true it testifies that Joseph Smith was a prophet and if he is a prophet that means that God has once again called prophets in these days to guide and direct us. These prophets are different from pastors or those that sought power and authority through a school, but this power came from God himself. I know this church has the power and authority of God in it and I love hearing the message of our prophet today. Joseph Smith's successor today is Thomas S. Monson and I have prayed to know that he is a true and living prophet. Twice a year they address the world and I anticipate those messages very much because I am touched with the truthfulness of their word and as well feel great peace in listening to those messages.

How I live my faith

I was raised in the LDS church and learned from a young age I wanted to dedicate two years of my life to teach others about my church. I started seminary classes, studying the scriptures and attending Sunday classes. When I was 19 years old I went to the Missionary Training Center to learn Spanish and get ready to live in Monterrey Mexico when my lung collapsed one day doing my laundry. This forever changed my life! At first this was a huge trial because I was unable to go to Mexico and teach others about the LDS faith and furthermore I couldn't do something I loved, which was scuba dive. I felt I was betrayed as I was in the place I should have been and felt I should have experienced protection. I was reassigned to a state-side mission to Houston Texas where I learned many things about myself and where I am 100% certain I could have only learned those lessons in that location. My relationship with God became much stronger when I had to rely on him and TRUST him. While attending college I was very active in my school and ran for an elected study body officer position over the Service Center. I loved this time to figure out what was important in life, which is serving others. During this time I learned a lot about how to be a leader and dedicated myself to be a servant leader. I helped start a few successful programs on campus including a Student Food Pantry, Biggest Loser Weight Loss Competition and an Annual State-wide Service Project. Currently I am using my knowledge in Human Resources to help out fellow members of my congregation as I help them find jobs, review their resumes, conduct mock interviews and prepare them any way needful for them to acquire employment. Since the majority of them are fellow students like me getting ready for full-time employment it keeps me pretty busy and gives me meaningful experience in the HR field.
