Hi I'm Betsy

I grew up in Utah in the United States. I love mathematics, and I'm studying to become a math teacher. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I am a senior studying mathematics and statistics secondary education at a university in the United States, and I hope to be able to change young people's lives by guiding them in the exciting world of math. Math education isn't a major that people usually categorize with the other "helping people" majors like medicine or social work, but it really is. There is power and confidence in knowledge and problem solving and it is amazing to be able to see how that changes people's lives. My husband and I have been married for about a year. We love the fun and peace that the outdoors can bring and try to go hiking, biking, skiing, backpacking, or ultimate frisbee-ing as much as possible.

Why I am a Mormon

Choosing to be a mormon doesn't mean that I know the answers to everything. There are many, many lessons that I have yet to learn and relearn. However, I can say that whenever I have chosen to have faith in the commandments that God has given us, every single time my faith is confirmed. I know that when I pray, I have a loving Heavenly Father who is listening and is willing to teach me and help me find answers. I know that Jesus Christ is our savior, and that he provided us with a way to repent when we make mistakes and to progress in this life and the next. I have learned that whenever things seem dismal or hopeless, if we put our trust in the savior and follow him, everything will be okay. I am a mormon because it helps me be happy.

How I live my faith

I think one of the main lessons we are here on earth to learn is how to serve others and lift their spirits. Even though I am far from perfect in this regard, I pray every day that I can be sensitive to the needs of the people who are around me and that I will be inspired with how to meet those needs. We are all here together as children of Heavenly Father, going through trials together, and there is so much we can do to bear each others burdens and make them seem light. One program that the church implements is called Visiting Teaching, where the women in each congregation visit each other, strive to serve in meaningful ways, and share the love of our savior. I have been so blessed through this program by women who have buoyed me up in times of trial, as well as the opportunities I have had to reach out to other women in my community who need a supportive listener or helping hand. I have been amazed at the care and testimonies that these women possess and the way they strive to exemplify Jesus Christ.
