Hi I'm Seth Hinrichsen

I grew up in Las Vegas. I love sports, friends, and family. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have grown up around sports my entire life. I love basketball, football, and baseball; playing as well as watching. I have two awesome sisters, Hannah and Sydnee. Hannah is married to the best brother-in-law a boy could ask for his sister, LJ. Sydnee is the most talented violinist I know and I'm sure I ever will. My parents are the best people I have ever known. My mom, Suzie, grew up in California and my dad, Brent, grew up in Las Vegas like me. My dad served a mission for the LDS church in Boston, Massachusetts and my brother-in-law, LJ, served his LDS mission in Mongolia. I am currently a Freshman at Brigham Young University (BYU) and loving every minute. I plan to serve a mission after my Freshman year of college and am very excited/anxious for that opportunity. I spent my entire life in Las Vegas and have learned to love the city; believe it or not Mormon's DO live in "sin-city". I am just a normal guy, doing all I can to be the best person I can be. Sounds cheesy, but it's the truth.

Why I am a Mormon

There are many reasons why I am a Mormon. I was born into the church, so that plays a big factor, but even if I wasn't born into it, I feel like I would still be a member. From a young age the church has always been a place that for three hours a week, I feel calm, peaceful, and happy. That is what I love so much about a being a Mormon; it just makes me happy, it's plain a simple. The people, the atmosphere, and the close bonds are something so rare in this world that I could never stray from such a powerful place. I think peace and happiness are some of the many great things about the gospel and its principles. My testimony is a simple one, but to me, it is among the most precious things in my life. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is God's full and restored church on the earth today. I know that we all have a Father in Heaven who watches over us each day, he worries about our well-being and our happiness. He gave his own child so that you and I could have the opportunity to live with him again, but only if we will follow his teachings. I know that my, and your, savior Jesus Christ lives. I know that he suffered for my sins and took the pains of my mistakes so that I could fix my mistakes. I know that Joseph Smith, prayed to God and Jesus and received a vision so profound that it ushered in the restoration of God's true church. I know that my the Lord has a prophet on the Earth today and that man is Thomas S Monson, and likes the prophets of old, he gives us words from the Lord that we must hear. I know that each of us is here to be tested to see if we can put of the things of the world and follow Christ's "strait and narrow path". I know that there is a world beyond this, where we will see those we love again. And finally, I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, it teaches what we must do to return to live with Heavenly Father, which in the end should be our goals in this lifetime. THE BOOK IS BLUE, THE CHURCH IS TRUE

How I live my faith

As Dalai Lama once said, "Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your actions." I believe that is true. One of the key principles of the LDS church is service; and that is how I aspire to live my faith. Although at times I may not be perfect at it, but nobody is as we read in Romans 3:28, I try my very best. I work to build up those around me in any way possible. I find that the best way for me to find happiness is to serve others and that is why I try so hard to implicate service into my life, because it brings me happiness, as Dalai Lama said. Along with service I do the simple things that help me out daily such as: reading my scriptures (Book of Mormon and Bible), saying my prayers as they are my one way to communicate with my Father in Heaven, and attending church. I try to live my beliefs through my actions and the way that I interact with those around me. I try to treat others with kindness and love, the way I believe Christ would treat them. I say try because many times I don't treat others so well. I am an imperfect person, I recognize that but I am trying my hardest to be as good as I can be. I live my faith through my actions with others and myself each day.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Seth Hinrichsen
Mormons believe the Bible is the word of God. We believe that the Bible is the history of the Lord's people in the ancient world and Christ's day and that the Book of Mormon is a history of the Lord's people in the "Promised Land" or the America's. We look to the Bible for inspiration as well as the Book of Mormon. There is a common misconception that Mormon's disregard the Bible and try to replace it with the Book of Mormon, but this could not be more far from the truth. I love the Bible and the Book of Mormon, the Book of Mormon is a more recent book filled with prophesie Show more Show less
