Hi I'm Janelle

I grew up in the USA, but I've lived overseas for 18 years now. I am a librarian. I am a mother. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm actually quite shy. My childhood was difficult because my father was mentally ill. I've struggled with depression since adolescence. I was bulimic as a late teen. I feel that choosing faith in Christ has enabled me to have a very fulfilling adulthood. I was able to attend BYU and earn a degree in Family Life Science. I've been married for 20 years with our 4th child born a decade after the first 3. We've lived on US military bases overseas for 18 years. I have a Masters of Library Information Science (MLIS). For now, I choose to be a full-time homemaker.

Why I am a Mormon

Even someone who is born into a certain religion must decide for themselves if it what they wish to believe. While I was born into a Mormon family, I still feel that I am a convert. When I study and apply the teachings of Christ as found in the Mormon church, I feel the Spirit of God in my life. This spirit fills me with peace, understanding, and a love for all of God's children. When I keep God's commandments and seek to follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost, I have been protected spiritually and physically. I have found true fulfillment in living as a Mormon. I understand my unique role as a woman, wife, and mother--this is where I will have the most lasting influence. As a late teen, I fell in love with a Buddhist. This caused me to question if I Mormonism is the only way to happiness. I studied many religions. I discovered that God loves all his children and gives pieces of Truth to people all around the world. Yet, I cannot deny that the fulness of truth resides in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is the only religion that has answers to all of my deepest questions. It is the only religion with a living prophet to guide us in these turbulent times. The priesthood of God has been restored through Joseph Smith. (Priesthood is the power and authority to act in the name of God.) This is the only Christian church that is neither from the original Christian church nor an offspring of that church. It is a restoration of Christ's true church. Many Christian denominations seem to pick and choose which things to believe from the Bible, but the LDS church is the most complete. Moreover, life has granted me many opportunities to know Christ personally. I needed His help to forgive the hurt from my father and others. Only Heavenly Father could help me overcome bulimia. I needed the hope only Christ can give to help me endure my depression. I need to choose faith when a loved one passes away, so I know I will see them again in the next life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by staying close to my Father in Heaven through prayer, studying scriptures, and service. I love that our church gives us constant opportunities to serve one another. I've really enjoyed teaching all ages of people. A companion and I love to visit and share a gospel message once a month to 2-4 assigned sisters. This gives me the perfect way for shy me to initiate and sustain friendships.
