Hi I'm Jake Hesen

I grew up in California. I surf, read, and play volleyball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a university student, studying psychology and pre-med, who enjoys playing club volleyball, and intramural basketball. I love the ocean, and i am a sucker for books. I love high adventure activities, i.e., white water rafting, rock climbing, skydiving, etc. I have been in school choirs, sport teams, and counseling programs. I love finding adventures to enjoy. I am also currently serving a mission in London, England!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a 'Mormon', because I know this is the truth. This truth brings peace, love, and joy. It is the reason young men and young women go out into the world to serve missions. This gospel is everything that one could want. And in my life it has brought peace, It has brought love, and it has certainly brought joy. I know that my Savior, and my Father in Heaven, live, and that they love me. I am a 'Mormon' because it is right, and the way to return to them once more.

How I live my faith

I live the gospel by actively trying to follow all of its teachings. I love what is taught, and how applicable it is to my life. I strive to have my life in harmony with the teachings of Christ. I have done this by serving as varying roles for the church. I have been quorum president, fast offering coordinator, a home teacher, and on a youth committee (planned various youth groups and activities). I earnestly try to fulfill the callings I receive to help my ward, and to serve the Lord.

What is the Law of Chastity?

Jake Hesen
The Law of Chastity is God's law pertaining to our sexual conduct before, and during marriage. We are to abstain from sex before marriage, and to have complete fidelity, or loyalty, during marriage. This includes keeping our thoughts and actions clean, i.e., avoiding pornography or masturbation. Sex is not an inherently bad thing. it has two wonderful purposes; one is to procreate, and the second is to bond a married man and woman in a way that nothing else can. Keeping the Law of Chastity brings safety, happiness, peace, and self-respect. It also deepens married love and protects families. Our Father in Heaven knows what will bring us happiness, and so He has revealed how we are to live to gain that happiness. Living this law has blessed my life in countless ways, and I know that it can bless your life just as much. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Jake Hesen
Mormon missionaries proselyte because it is one way that we attempt to share our message, and that message is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This religion brings us happiness, peace, and joy, and as a result many of us have a desire to share with others. Our missionaries go out and share the word as best as they can. They go and find people who are interested, and willing to learn, so that they too might have this joy. We recognize that not everyone wants to or will accept the message we share, and that is their right to do so, but we try our best to give every one an opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and then make the decision if they wish to allow it into their lives. Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Jake Hesen
To understand who wrote the Book of Mormon, one must understand what the book is. It is another testament of the divinity and glory of Jesus Christ. Similar to the bible it is a collection of writings from ancient prophets, compiled and abridged into one smaller book. One prophet, named Mormon, collected all of these ancient writings, and throughout his life, complied and abridged all of these records into what we now have as the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith was led to this record, and through the power of God he translated them into English. It is a set of holy scripture that is to be used in corroboration with the Bible, for without one, neither can be true. Show more Show less
