Hi I'm Hi I'm Bill Oehlke

I am a convert to the church, having been baptized in Summerside, PEI in 1971.

About Me

I spent my boyhood in rural New Jersey where I was very interested in sports and nature. Graduated with BA from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, in 1970 with major in Psychology and minor in English. Subsequently received BEd from University of PEI and MEd from Saint Mary's University, Nova Scotia. Served as teacher/administrator at Montague Regional High School and Montague Intermediate School 1971-2002. Currently retired from teaching career. Live with my wife of 42 years in Montague. All four children are now independent. I am currently self-employed and maintain websites about Saturniidae, Sphingidae and Catocala. I rear larvae of local Saturniidae and Sphingidae during summer months.

Why I am a Mormon

Missionaries who visited me in 1974 answered questions I had about religion. I was impressed with their dedication and the dedication of church pioneers. The basic doctrines of the church appealed to me. I began attending church in Summerside as an investigator and was again impressed by the sincerity of the members in the Summerside Branch with regard to living their religion. I decided to get baptized in 1974 and since then have had many special experiences where I have seen or felt the love of God. My views about who I am and how I should live my life have changed greatly since joining the church, and I am appreciative of the progress I have made as an individual, and feel largely at peace with who I am and what I have been doing.

How I live my faith

I joined the church in 1974 (Summerside, PEI) as result of two missionaries who visited us in Montague. They answered many questions I had about religion and my relationship to God. I was especially impressed with doctrines of salvation for the dead, eternal families and our eternal nature as spirit children of loving Heavenly Parents. I was also impressed with the church's Home Teaching program when first learning about it. The great sacrifices made by Joseph Smith and the early pioneers also made a great impression upon me. Shortly after I joined the church in Summerside a dependent Sunday School was organized in Charlottetown, and we recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the church in Montague. I have served as nursery teacher, primary teacher, youth Sunday school teacher, Adult Sunday school teacher, Institute and Seminary teacher, branch clerk, branch executive secretary, counselor in both Elders Quorum presidencies and Branch presidencies, and have also served as Elders Quorum President and Branch President. I currently serve as Elders Quorum President in the Montague Branch where I have been engaged in many service projects over the years.
