Hi I'm Katie

I'm a screenwriter, movie buff, and a gamer. I'm a Midwestern girl living in L.A. And I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm a certified nerd, and not just because nerdy is now cool. I learned to speak Elvish at age twelve and I know the names of Harry Potter characters you've never heard of. Now I game and devour comics and like to think of myself as a TV connoisseur. I love to travel; England and Chicago are my favorite places on earth but I've got plenty more places to see before I kick the bucket. I'm a screenwriter with dreams of creating the best TV shows you've ever seen and, on a serious note, inspiring emotions within my audiences which will then, hopefully, motivate them to change within and enact change without. I was put up for adoption by a single mother and was blessed to be given the family I have now. I'm an only child and my parents are my best friends. I live in Los Angeles now and it's been tough, but even when money is tight and nothing seems to be working out, I know that God has a plan for me and I try to be patient (not a strength of mine ;) ).

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Mormon, but I wasn't always really a Mormon. As a teenager, I struggled with anxiety and ADHD and I didn't really fit in anywhere, and I don't just mean at church, I mean at school or with anyone--at least that's how it felt. Gradually, I had to rely more and more on the one source that got me and loved me no matter how much of a 'freak' I might have been: God. I didn't have a lightning bolt moment that made me believe or made me a Mormon, but over the course of a few years, I just knew more and more that what I'd been taught was the truth and that if I lived it, my life would be full of happiness and safety. I'm a Mormon because God is real, and despite what a lot of religions and belief systems believe, he's talking to us today, every day, through a prophet. I'm a Mormon because I've prayed and received confirmation that what I learned growing up is indeed true. I'm a Mormon because these people, these other Mormons, are wonderful, loving people and they make my life happy and light, whether I'm weird or not.

How I live my faith

I think I live my faith to the fullest in my personal life, with friends and contacts. I try to do what I know I should do, and people have told me time and time again that they like me because I'm different or because I don't follow the crowd. The Mormon church teaches me to be loving and to help those around me, and I try to do this as much as I can. I attend church as often as I can--not just on Sundays, but in fun activities and meetings throughout the week. Right now, I've been working to make sure everyone at church has rides to and from, even if they don't have a car or live far away. They call me the Transportation Coordinator. :P

What is the Church’s position on abortion?

This issue is important to me because I'm adopted and I could have easily been aborted. We oppose abortions except in cases where the life or health of the mother is in danger, or in cases of rape and incest. We believe that an unborn baby is alive and that it deserves life. Show more Show less
