Hi I'm Courtney

I survived spinal meningitis, I am a widowed mother of two, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I lead a very unique life. When I was just two years old, I got bacterial meningitis, and my parents were told I would not live through the first night. But because of a Priesthood blessing I received, I woke up after an eleven day coma. I had a traumatic brain injury, I was blind, and was paralyzed on the left side, but I was alive and asking for french-fries. Because I was so young, my brain remapped it's self, and I can now see, and use my left side almost as well as anyone else. If you were to pass me on the street, you wouldn't be able to tell that anything had ever happened to me. Despite my limitations, I graduated high school with the kids my own age, and a few years later I was sealed for time and all eternity to the love of my life. Our first child was born just 10 and a half months after we were married, with our second child soon to follow. My husband suffered from many health problems throughout our marriage, and passed away just a few months before our 7th wedding anniversary. I became a widow at just 29 years old. I have been a single mom ever since. Although life is not easy, and I miss my husband. I know that our family will be together forever, , and that is what helps me be strong and keeps me going!

Why I am a Mormon

I love my savior Jesus Christ, and I am so thankful for the peace and comfort that his Gospel continually brings to my life. There have been so many times that I have made it through hard times with my head held high, and the streignth that got me through it was not my own! Looking back on these times, the only explaination that I have is that I have Heavenly help! I know that my Heavenly Father, and my Savior Jesus Christ love me and if I try my best, they will help me through anything that comes my way through the power of the Holy Ghost. I am so grateful for the Temple, and for the choice that I made to be married there. Because of that one choice that I made when I was so young, I am now sealed to my sweet husband, and beautiful kids for eternity. This is a part of the gospel that is very dear to my heart now that my husband is watching over us from Heaven. I look forward to the day when my entire family will be united again.

How I live my faith

I love going to Church. I have had callings in my ward pretty much ever since I graduated from high school. I have been a chorister, I have put together paper handouts for small church meetings, and I have been a Nursery worker, teaching kids between the ages of 18 months and 3 years. But I have spent most of my time as a Primary teacher teaching kids anywhere between the ages of 3 and 12 depending on which class I am assigned to for the year. I am currently team teaching the five year olds with my sister, and I love it!
