Hi I'm Sofi

I've lived in six countries. I'm the middle of five kids. I speak Chinese. I believe in Christ.

About Me

Because I grew up moving around the world, I love experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. I'm a college student studying Chinese and business. I enjoy learning, running, playing guitar, and spending time with my family and boyfriend.

Why I am a Mormon

Like many people, I gained faith in God, Christ, prayer, the Book of Mormon and the church little by little. I payed attention to how I felt at church, how I felt when I read the scriptures, how I felt when I prayed, served others, and sang Hymns. I felt at peace. I felt God's love. That is what it feels like to feel the Holy Ghost. I could especially feel the Holy Ghost during Fast and Testimony meeting. This is the Sunday worship service that is held on the first Sunday of every month. Instead of having pre-prepared sermons, everyone and anyone from the congregation is invited to testify how they know that God is our Father and that Jesus died for us and that the Book of Mormon is true. I am and always have been very impressed by the faith of the members of the church. There are many people that dismiss The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints without knowing much about it. Many people try to use logic to explain away all the miraculous, wonderful things the church accomplishes. However, I know that the only way to know whether the church is true or not is to ask God. If you want to know if God exists, and if he loves you, ask HIM. If you want to know what kind of church this is, go and see for yourself! If you want to know how if The Book of Mormon is the word of God or not, read it. The first time I read The Book of Mormon from cover to cover, I knelt down and asked God if The Book of Mormon was true. I felt God's love. I felt peace. I heard the Holy Ghost witness to me that The Book of Mormon is an honest testament of Jesus Christ. I choose to remain a Mormon because it brings me such joy. I love the teachings of Christ: to love God, love others, and improve yourself.

How I live my faith

Even though my parents are both Mormons, now that I'm out of the house, I choose for myself. I still go to church every Sunday. I still read the Bible or the Book of Mormon everyday. I still pray to my Heavenly Father everyday. I'm honest. I work and do well in school. I try to take good care of my God-given body. I try to help those in need. For example, every month I skip two meals and donate the money I saved on the meals to charity. From September to December, I volunteered every week helping in a first-grade Chinese immersion classroom.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Sofi
God values the freedom to choose. So, no one in the church is forced to do anything. This also applies to missionary service. Missionary service is a huge time commitment (1.5-2 years) and a lot of work. Missionaries work very hard and are not paid for their service. Show more Show less
