Hi I'm Jaelyn

I grew up in Virginia. I work for the YMCA and strive to make a positive impact in my community. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My full-time work helps me stay engaged with the community where I live. I have resources at work with which I can help those in need not just by giving "hand outs" but by giving "hand ups" (a.k.a. helping those in need to help themselves). I live close to family and enjoy spending time with them on the weekends particularly on Sundays after church when we gather for family dinner at my parents' house. I have a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in Exercise Sciences and have a passion for motivating myself and others to live a healthier life. I work out almost daily to help reduce daily stress, keep myself healthy and have fun with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

My grandfather grew up on a family farm in Virginia. Mormon missionaries came to the farm in the 1930s and taught the families who lived there. My grandfather was one of many who choose to be baptized and become a member of the church. I am an extension of his faith from so many years before. Today, I choose to be a faithful member of the church because throughout my years of study and experience I have not found any other way that brings me more happiness than living a life in accordance with the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know my Father in Heaven loves me and cares for me deeply. I know that He hears and answers my prayers and knows me individually. I know that He sent His Son to earth to fulfill a mission which would make it possible for me to return to live with them in heaven after my life here on earth. I know that the family I have here is one that is eternal and that I will have an opportunity of being with them again after we leave this life. I know that I have been sent here to earth to prove my obedience and love for my Heavenly Father and that if I endure I will be able to live with Him again. All of these things I know through personal study and prayer and confirmation of the spirit telling me that these things are true. I am grateful for my knowledge of these things and for a grandfather who took a small step to be baptized which has blessed me in numerous ways as well as the rest of my family.

How I live my faith

The word I would use to describe how I live my faith on a daily basis would be "service". Each morning I pray for guidance on how I can help and uplift another who may need my service during the day. This is accomplished in various ways but regardless of what it is I actually do for the person I always have the same good feeling of helping someone in need. In my church service I currently teach the women in my congregation once a month. I have come to enjoy this call to serve because it helps me to get to know and respect the women I go to church with as well as have the opportunity to study and learn the topic I am teaching for that month. I find my study brings the spirit into my life more and helps me to draw inspiration from the Lord not only for my upcoming lesson but also for my life in general.

What is faith?

Jaelyn
Faith is to have hope for something that you can't see or necessarily comprehend all at once. Faith is to trust in something that can't be proved by scientific methods. Faith is being able to act on thoughts and feelings without knowing for sure what the end product will be. Faith proceeds miracles and blessings. Show more Show less
