Hi I'm Brian

I'm an actuary in progress. I love hiking, camping, and trail running. I'm an optimist and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in San Diego with my dad in the Navy. Although I didn't have to move around as much as most military families, I did get to live on the Guantanamo Bay naval base. Since getting off the naval base, I've very much enjoyed exploring the mountains and valleys that are around me. I thoroughly enjoy trail running as a way to both explore and get to know my surroundings. I figure, if you're going to run, you might as well explore while you're doing it. Along with running, I'll play any sport out there, although baseball, football, and soccer are kind of my favorites. I am studying to become an actuary. I enjoy statistics and math, along with financing. My goal however, is not to become the best actuary out there, but rather, to become a father and a family man. As much as I enjoy making models and striving to help companies make efficient decisions, I feel my passion comes with raising a family.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been Mormon my entire life but have spent most of my life surrounded by those of other faiths.Through high school, I enjoyed discussing different ideas and views of political and cultural debates with my friends of different backgrounds. Although it wasn't easy to live such strict commandments through high school, I found strength in the fact that when I lived the gospel, I was happy. My friends often pointed out that I was the 'light' of the group, or the one that was always optimistic. Living this life style has only brought hope and joy to my life. I can't imagine what my life would have been like if I had chosen to follow some other road. I am who I am because of the teachings of Jesus Christ, and because of these teachings, I can continue to become better. I know that Jesus Christ showed us how to live and how to treat our fellow men. I know it is through His atonement that we can become like Him and return with our Heavenly Father. I know that the family is sacred and that they are meant to last for eternity. I owe everything to His teachings, and for that reason, I will give all in return.

How I live my faith

Growing up, I was a boy scout and was able to provide a lot of service to the nearby parks in my neighborhood. This taught me the importance of going out of my way to help others and the community. I currently volunteer to help train missionaries at a missionary training center. Along with that, when my schedule allows it, I volunteer at the nearby schools either tutoring in math or in Spanish. I served two years as a missionary in Mexico City, doing everything I could to help the people that I would come in contact with. Whether it was helping someone clean out their yard, or teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, I did what I could to try to make the lives of those in Mexico City a little better.
