Hi I'm Patrick

I'm married to my best friend. I have 3 wonderful kids. I climb trees and ride unicycles in the woods. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up the middle child in a family of 5 boys. My parents were both members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) and my earliest memories include church attendance and activities. I've always loved the outdoors - a trait fostered by the Boy Scout program, which is an integral part of the church's program for young men (teenagers). I served a 2 year mission to Central America in the mid 90's, where I shared my testimony of Jesus Christ with the humble and faithful people of Honduras and Belize. My mission changed my life. It solidified my testimony that God can change hearts and that the Gospel of Jesus Christ blesses the life of anyone who embraces it. When I returned to the US, my view of what's most important in life had totally changed. I met my future wife at a church conference 3 weeks after getting home and we were married 9 months later. We lived the poor student lifestyle as I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees in biochemistry. By the time I finally finished my education we had been married 9 years and had three children. I love my family with all my heart and we like spending time together inside and outdoors. You could find us outside camping, searching for geocaches, riding bikes and mountain unicycles in the woods, or climbing trees on rope.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon and a Christian because I believe with all my heart that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that he has restored his complete Gospel through the prophet Joseph Smith.

How I live my faith

I've had many roles in the congregations where we have lived. For many years I was involved in the Boy Scouting program, which entailed camping with and teaching the youth of our church. Currently I teach younger kids in Sunday School. I love teaching kids and teenagers and seeing their faith and the strength of their testimonies. In a broader sense I try to incorporate Jesus Christ's example and teachings in every part of my life. Even though I fail to live up to God's expectations of the faithful on a regular basis, I have felt His love and guidance throughout my life.

What is faith?

I love trees and am especially fond of the giant Coast Redwoods on the West Coast of the United States. Dozens of redwood seeds can fit side by side on a penny, and yet just one of them can grow into an enormous tree hundreds of feet tall and with a trunk bigger than 10 adults can reach around when interlocking arms. The potential in a Redwood seed is like faith. When we put our trust in the Lord it is like planting that seed in our heart. Slowly as we nourish that seed, Jesus Christ miraculously transforms our tiny bit of faith into rock-solid conviction with a power of its own. Show more Show less
