Hi I'm Douglas Flory

I am the father of 6 children, married to my eternal love, am a convert to the church, and am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I found the church through the missionaries, but as I look back I realize that the church was always a presence in my life. I am the father of 6 children and married to my better half. I was born in the Midwest, raised in the South, and now live in the Rocky Mountains. BBQ, basketball, reading, and family history are my favorite hobbies.

Why I am a Mormon

Like so many others, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints due to missionary work. I joined the church as a young adult. As a child, the concepts of religion or church were not a common practice or familiar to me. I was invited to attend church by a friend. After she moved away, I continued to attend and learn more about the church. I knew that there was something 'different' about what I was experiencing, but did not have the spiritual maturity to understand how to put it into words. However, I liked the feeling of what I was being a part of and what the church had to offer. I was blessed to have a good family there to be "A friend in the Church to whom he can constantly turn, who will walk beside him, who will answer his questions, who will understand his problems." They helped me to understand, learn, and participate in church. Along the way, I was given the chance to see a living Prophet of God at a regional conference, travel to see a temple, and visit Temple Square. Since my baptism, I have been so blessed by Our Father in Heaven. I am a better person as a result; it has led me to being a husband, fatherhood, and the knowledge that I am a Child of God.

How I live my faith

First, I am a child of God learning more about the gospel of Jesus Christ every day. Second, I am a devoted husband and father who has been blessed to have them be a part of my life. At church, I participate in a volunteer capacity where I have been called to serve. These callings allow me to serve others, strengthen my testimony, increase my faith, and expand my understanding of the gospel. I am currently Young Men's advisor to the 12-14 year old boys and also in our Scouting program as Assistant Scoutmaster. Although I am their leader, I find that I often times learn more from them and their example.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Douglas Flory
Joseph Smith is a man of the most high character. As a young boy, he earnestly sought answers to his simple prayer about which church to join. His prayer opened the Heavens and our understanding of Heavenly Father and Jesus the Christ. Thereafter, he endured many things and led countless more to the truth. I respect him as a husband, father, disciple, individual, and ultimately as a Prophet. His character, strength, and faith are an example to me as I endure my personal trials, count my blessings, and try my best each day. He is a honest, humble man who was called to serve, to which he did with the greatest of magnification. Doctrine & Covenants 135 reads: “Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it.” Watch our Prophet today (Thomas S. Monson) talk about Joseph Smith: https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2005/10/the-prophet-joseph-smith-teacher-by-example?lang=eng Show more Show less
