Hi I'm Paul Smart

I grew up in northern Utah. I'm married with four children. I work as an Electrical Engineer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Professionally, I work as an engineer, which probably has something to do with my father being an engineer and my mother being a high school math teacher. I have enjoyed my work and am grateful for how it has blessed my family. I've always enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors or playing sports. My favorite hobby is fly fishing and this is something that I have done since high school. I have a lot of great memories with family and friends being out on hikes, climbing Mt. Rainier, or fly fishing on the rivers of the western United States. I also have a passion for sports. Baseball and basketball are my favorite sports to participate in, and I enjoy watching almost any sport where there is a good competition. On Saturdays in the fall you can often find me my family at Romney Stadium in Logan taking in a Utah State Aggie football game. My family keeps me very busy and I love it. Having a family has been the most rewarding experience in my life. My wife and children are the most important thing in my life and I enjoy spending time with them working on projects in our home, going fishing, camping, or attending piano and dance recitals.

Why I am a Mormon

I have faith in Jesus Christ. I am grateful for his Atonement for my sins and the opportunity that I have to feel of his love and grace. The Gospel of Jesus Christ gives me the foundation that I need to overcome the challenges and difficulties of life. I have a strong faith and testimony of Joseph Smith. I know that he was a prophet of God. He translated the Book of Mormon, and the Book of Mormon has played a critical role in how I have lived my life. It is a book that teaches of Christ. It lifts the soul and I always feel closer to God when I take time to read from this book. I also have a great love for the Bible, as it contains the word of God. I know that Christ has restored his church on the Earth through the prophet Joseph Smith. I feel blessed to have been touched by the holy spirit to confirm the truth of these things. I know that I need to strive every day to improve myself and progress spiritually in order bless my life, the life of my family, and the lives of others that I have the opportunity to serve.

How I live my faith

I was raised in an LDS family and living my religion has always been something that my parents stressed to me. I was able to serve as a full-time missionary in Venezuela, and this experience changed my life. I was able to gain a better appreciation of a culture and people, that were different from what I knew. I grew to love this country and its people, and I am grateful that I was able to spend two years there to both teach the Gospel and serve the people. The LDS church stresses that we need to practice Christ-like love for all people. The church gives us a lot of opportunities to serve and encourages us to be active and seek-out service opportunities in the community. I have been a scout leader for a number of years and have really enjoyed spending time with young men and providing them with good experiences and opportunities to learn. Currently I serve in the church as a clerk to our local church leadership. This involves taking care of a lot of detailed secretarial work so that our local church leaders can focus on serving the people in our area. It is a very rewarding experience and I am grateful to be able to serve in whatever way I can.
