Hi I'm Eric Scott Dougherty

I am from Wisconsin. I love all people. I rollerblade whenever I can. I program in C#. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Eric Dougherty and I am serving in the Anaheim California Spanish speaking Mission :) I currently live in Wisconsin but I grew up in California. My parents divorced when I was 10, but I am blessed with both a wonderful step-dad and a wonderful step-mom. I love all my parents. I grew up in a family of 5 other kids! I am a identical twin! :D I love my family and love Heavenly Father's plan that makes it so my family can be together forever! :) I love to program! I'll program anything, computers, calculators, cellphones, even some programmable logic boards for some fun with electronic circuitry :) I plan on getting a major in software engineering at BYUI. My biggest hobby is rollerblading. I go skating as often as I can! I love dancing and will dance whenever I can as well, so going to skate land is perfect! I get to dance, and skate! woohoo :D I never want to stop learning or progressing, especially in the gospel. I study all religions I can get my hands on, from Taoism, to Buddhism, Islam, and Alchemy. I believe that there is truth in all things, and that there is something to be learned from all religions as they all hold a portion of the truth. However, I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints holds the complete and restored truth of the gospel, and that all truth can be found within its precepts :)

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of this wonderful Church. All of us at one point have to become converted to the teachings of the prophets and Jesus Christ. For those who are converts into the church, they were converted when they felt the truth of the gospel and decided to live by its precepts and be baptized. For those of us who are born into the church, we have to be converted just like everybody else. We have to one day decide to follow the teachings of the Church, we have to feel the truth of the gospel and decide that this isn't just what our parents believe, it is what WE believe as well. When I was in high school, I experienced a trial of faith. I questioned things, I struggled with the scriptures, and I didn't attend church as often as I should have. I felt a change in my life. The fullness of joy that had filled my heart was gone, I could still be happy, but it was a worldly, temporary happiness. In an effort to once again experience the encircling Joy I had before experienced, I started reading my scriptures a lot. I read them every chance I could, for hours on end. I prayed as often as I could, even while walking at work, asking the Lord to help me. I felt like a missing part of me had been restored, I felt the Love of my Heavenly Father in my life again. I actively feel the atonement in my life, and it gives me so much hope to carry on from day to day. I know that Jesus Christ has died for my sins, so when I repent, I can move on and try again. I am Mormon because I know that this Church is true, and that everything about it is divinely inspired and that it brings me happiness and hope. The Lord loves you. No matter how inadequate you feel, how unworthy or ashamed you ever are, please get on your knees and just pray to the Lord, ask for his forgiveness. He loves us and wants us to be happy, he wants YOU to be happy :) You will feel peace knowing you are forgiven, and will be able to get up with a hope in your heart as you continue to seek out the Glories of God :)

How I live my faith

I live my faith by studying my scriptures daily and praying constantly to my Father in Heaven. I constantly try to follow the example shown by Jesus Christ and apply his teachings into my life. I believe that religion isn't a "every Sunday thing", it is an everyday, all day thing. When I am doing what the Lord has asked I feel him helping me find the positive things in life. Currently I live my faith by serving on a full-time mission to help bring others to know the same joy I have experienced through Jesus the Christ. I love all people, and know that true Love-in-Action is to serve others and help bring them back to the outstretched, waiting arms of God :)
