Hi I'm Shelise

I like running and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Utah and was born into a family as the youngest then later adopted two siblings, making me the middle child. I recently graduated from a university in Utah studying Psychology. I have a passion for helping others see their potential. One of my favorite hobbies is running. I was able to use my talent in running to pay for my education. I have been married for one year and have enjoyed every moment. We do not have any kids but are looking forward to them when we feel it is right.

Why I am a Mormon

I originally joined this faith because I was born into it. I continue in this faith because I know it. I have had the precious opportunity to have members in my community teach me small lessons about the church throughout my life. One of those small lessons was a challenge to read the Book of Mormon. Being as competitive as I am, I accepted the challenge and set the goal to read just one page a day. As I started to read daily to reach my goals I noticed my thoughts began to change. I stopped reading to hit my goal and kept reading because of the love I began to feel. As I read I developed an indescribable love for my savior Jesus Christ and The Father. Some of those nights one page turned into many pages. I know my Father lives and loves each one of His children, including me.

How I live my faith

My husband and I were asked to help unite the newly wed couples in our area. Together we serve and live our faith by creating activities for these couples to find friends/support that help ease into their new lives as a Married couple. I also help young girls ages 12 to 14. We meet together on Sundays to worship and Wednesdays to do activities and service. The girls have enriched my live and help me to remember how to enjoy the simple things in life.

What is the First Vision?

Shelise
The first vision is sacred moment when God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith to restore the church. Joseph was confused with which church to join. He was reading in the Bible James 1:5 and it states "if any of ye lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." This led Joseph to pray. While praying the Father and Christ appeared. Like Joseph Smith if we lack wisdom we too can ask of God through prayer. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

Shelise
We believe family is the basic unit to society and our faith. Families are there to uplift and support you and vise versa. We also believe we can live with our families forever. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Shelise
The priesthood is the authority to use God's power. All male members of our church can have this authority to lead, bless, and perform ordinances. The Bishop uses the priesthood to lead our community. My husband used the priesthood to bless me when I was sick. My father used the priesthood to baptize me into the church. Show more Show less
