Hi I'm John Nolan

I'm British. I'm serving a mission in St George Utah and i want to join the military afterwards. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm just a regular guy from the green countryside of England. When i was very small we, my family of 2 parents and 1 older Sister, moved from Essex (my birthplace) to Worcestershire. We love the calm of the English countryside. I love to play video games but love to get out and play sports whenever the opportunity arises. I played Rugby for a little while at school but have since finished school. I went to college for 1 year studying computers and then in retail for 1 year afterwards. Right now i am on a mission in St George, Utah. It's great and i love it out here there are so many great people that i didn't know existed and i find great joy in serving other people in various ways. After my 2 years of service i want to join the British army. Military runs in my family on both sides but i decided at a young age that that was what i wanted to do after i went to an airborne forces day.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an active LDS family. My parents both joined the church with their parents (minus my Dad's dad) when they were younger. I have mainly been active in the church my whole life but this activity was not without trial and temptation. My testimony came in pieces here and there slowly being added too over occasional scripture study and church attendance. There was a crucial point in my life where i almost went inactive from the church. We were preparing to go to a huge 400-500person youth conference in Nottingham. I did not want to go but was convinced by a loving Youth leader to go. The Youth conference which took place over several days gave me a burning testimony. After this conference i prayed to know if i should serve a mission and received an instantaneous answer to my prayers. The Spirit urged me to go and i have not regretted that decision. Not all answers come straight away but this one did for me. Over the 2 years i had to prepare for a mission. I was still poor at scripture study but i tried to improve. With many answered prayers and some humbling experiences i entered the mission field in London, England where i waited for my visa for the USA. The time in England and the time in Utah has confirmed to me the truthfulness of this gospel, it has shown me it is a simple gospel but one that can change lives. I now can confirm that i know that Christ lives and that he loves us, he performed the Atonement for us. This is why i am still an active "Mormon".

How I live my faith

I try to be an example like Jesus Christ was. He was perfect and i am not but i strive to be the best i can and be kind to others. I try not to look at others with judgement and will always try to help people when they are in need. Before i left on my mission i helped the missionaries a lot by going out to lessons and service with them. It helped me get to know the people in my congregation better and built my testimony. In the past ,with the youth programme of the church, we have done things like litter picking on public land and cleaning up a church and graveyard of another faith. Right now as a missionary i strive to help others to come closer to Christ and also help people to do things like strip wallpaper off walls, pull weeds for older people, go on wood cutting trips and move people in and out of houses.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

John Nolan
The scriptures bring us closer to Christ as we study his words. There is great knowledge in the scriptures that has been given to us through Prophets from all ages. They speak the words of God and tell us his will concerning us. Reading these words gives us a knowledge of the great Plan of Happiness or Plan of Salvation and they tell us what we need to do to return to live with our families. Scriptures contain words of advice and wisdom about the world and how we can work on improving ourselves. The stories contained within the scriptures are more than just stories they are sending us messages on what to do and what not to do. The people in these stories are very real and tell us of their experiences so we can have hope through our trials. Scripture study is essential to understand the Gospel and our life on earth. Without the scriptures we are blind from the Will of God. Christ invited us to feast on the words, this more than casual study. It is delving into the great treasure of knowledge contained within the Bible, Book of Mormon and other scripture. This way we can understand what is going on around us and keep Christ as our light. Studying will bring in the Spirit and will provide it opportunity to testify to us of Christ's divinity and of all of the teachings of the church. We should pray as we study so that the Spirit can reveal treasures to us. I have had many spiritual experience with prayer and the scriptures Show more Show less
