Hi I'm Jason Sperry

I'm a 40 year old Latter Day Saint that lives in West Jordan, Utah. I'm an Accountant and have an LDS family.

About Me

I am married and have 2 boys and a girl. I work as an Accountant in a healthcare setting. I work with the youth between ages 14 to 16 at church and help them with scouting and leadership activities. I love skiing, racquetball, hiking, and some video gaming.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the LDS faith, but that doesn't mean I just went with what my parents taught me. This faith challenges you to find out for yourself what is true. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed about the church. I also went with a catholic friend and visited his church to find out more. I lived in a rough neighborhood where some other youth members were a little less than friendly to me. I believe this made me want to go the other way. I learned more from the church about empathy, compassion, and forgiveness to others because people are less than perfect. These qualities help in building better relationships and improving others which is one of the reasons I go to church. I also recently have raised a family and have learned how hard that can be, but that it is worth the effort. The church helps you in that effort. It also teaches you that the relationships you have with them can last forever, and it helps you gain those qualities needed such as empathy, compassion, and forgiveness to have that work for you in real life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by going to church every week, serving, and trying to be a good citizen in general. We also have weekly meetings for our family where we talk about church related issues and do our family planning and calendaring so that all of us can achieve our goals in a coordinated way. Our kids go to the youth activities once a week and/or scouting activities. We also read our scriptures together every night and pray together before going to bed. The Book of Mormon teaches that contention is of the devil and this helps us to try to remember that and the results that come from forgetting that. This is found in almost every chapter showing how our spiritual relationships with each other are damaged and spiritual death occurs due to not obeying God's commandments and in thinking we are better than Him and our fellow brothers. We have realized that the family is central to God's plan and with the harmony of family life we have more happiness in this life and in the life to come.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Jason Sperry
Family relationships are at the heart of God's plan. True happiness is found within the family and the relationships created between family and friends. Possessions may give one temporary satisfaction, but it is the spiritual relationships people have that bring the most joy. This also includes the relationship we have with Christ and our Heavenly Father. There is in each of us an innate need to pray and have a relationship with our Father in Heaven. He is a person that loves us and wants to be involved with our lives and would like to help us. Just as we as parents want the good of our children, he wants this for us, but eternally. Also just as our children may sometimes need to ask for help, the help God can give us is conditional on our asking for it even though he knows all and could help us without any effort on our part. It is this effort made that helps us grow and develop to become as he is and Christ. Through the ordinances in the temple we show our effort to want to be together as families by making sacred covenants to them as well as to God. These covenants that are made and kept will produce the result of having our families with us forever, but we need to show that we are sincere by making the effort required. All will make mistakes, but through the atonement of Christ we will have this opportunity in the next life. I can't imagine Heaven being a place where my family isn't there with me. It just wouldn't be Heaven. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Jason Sperry
The Book of Mormon is a book that helps everyone know that God loves all of his children not just the Jews. It shows that Jesus Christ is central to God's plan through his atonement and that by following Him we can become more like Him and live again forever with Christ, God, and our loved ones. It and other scripture clarifies questions that the Bible seems to miss. It also shows how prophets were relevant then in knowing the will of God and how in these changing times they are even more relevant now. Show more Show less
