Hi I'm Carissa Hoy

I love to laugh, I'm a language lover, I am serving in the Donetsk Ukraine Mission, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am currently a missionary heading to the Ukraine Donetsk mission. Before my mission I was studying linguistics in University. I hope to become a speech language pathologist specializing in second language acquisition. I love to play basketball and ultimate frisbee. I have received the bronze, silver, and gold levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Learning languages is my passion! I hope to one day become fluent in at least five languages although currently I am only fluent in one. I love my family, I love to laugh and I love being Mormon!

Why I am a Mormon

I have technically been a member my whole entire life but I wasn't fully involved and and excited about being a member until recently. I had always been told that this was the true church but I had never been completely sure of it myself until right before I decided to serve a mission. As I was preparing for my mission I was really trying to become closer with God and get the answer that I was looking for: "Is this the true church of God?" As I studied the scriptures, prayed to my father in heaven and really evaluated my life and the role that the gospel played in it, I received my answer. I now know that God lives and loves me with an infinite love. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. I know that when I pray to God he hears my prayers. I know that the power and authority of the priesthood comes directly from God for the purpose of blessing the lives of His children. I know that my Heavenly Father knows me personally and knows how I am feeling and wants to bless and comfort me. Because of how the gospel has blessed my life I wanted to have the opportunity to share it with others. I decided to apply to be a missionary so that I might be able to help others know that they are not alone and that they are precious children of an almighty God. I was ecstatic to receive my mission call to the Ukraine Donetsk mission and I cannot wait to get to Ukraine and serve the people there. I love this gospel, it has blessed me and my family in so many ways and I know without a doubt that it is true.

How I live my faith

Growing up my mother was a huge example of service to me. She has always been involved in community sports and other organizations and has been especially involved in service at church. She always encouraged my siblings and I to find our own ways to serve. I would often volunteer at community events, sport events, homeless shelters and other humanitarian organizations in my home town. At church it was my responsibility to organize activities each week for young adults in my ward. I love serving others because you can see the happiness it brings to their lives and the sincere appreciation that they have for you.
