Hi I'm Colleen

I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I run a soccer program for children and adults with Special Needs. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stay at home mom of five children, and feel very blessed to be able to do so. I love being a mom and grandma. I love spending time with my children reading, learning, gardening, sewing, cooking, doing service for others, etc. Stay at home does not describe what I do. I have always been very involved in my children's schools and helped in their extra curricular activities. One of my favorite times is traveling in the car with my children and being able to have a conversation with them one on one. Our youngest child was diagnosed with a syndrome and is developmentally delayed. He needs a lot more help and takes much longer to accomplish or learn something. This has been a blessing to our family, though it is not easy. I have watched my children give up their time and means to help their younger brother. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband who patiently cares for and teaches our son. Our family rallies together to make our family strong in a hard situation. This Sacrifice has brought my family very close and to have a greater love for each other. I feel this is a tremendous blessing for my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I know the Savior lives and loves me and my family! I feel His hand in my life every day. I know that someday I will be with my Father in Heaven again with my family and I will see my youngest son whole and well. I know he is one of Heavenly Father's special children and was sent here with a special propose. As were all of my children. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and under the direction of the Lord, he restored the church to the earth. By doing so, the Priesthood was restored. The Priesthood has brought me blessings of healing and comfort and to know Heavenly Father is aware of me and my family. I know we still have living prophets on the earth who help us know the will of the Lord. They are his mouthpiece. I love reading the scriptures especially the Book of Mormon which is another Testament of Christ. By studying all the scriptures I have seen the blessings of the Lord to His children through out time. I can feel the love of Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ the most when I am reading the scriptures with a prayer in my heart. I know they want us to have joy in this life and to live with them again for eternity. I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The gospel gives me direction and helps me feel the love of our Savior and our Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

Having a child with special needs has helped me be involved in the Special Needs Community. I have spent many hours helping in my son's functional skills class at school. I read to them or help them read, or I help do projects with them. I love it! I am the Coordinator for a special needs soccer group. I love being with these wonderful children of God. They are close to the Spirit of the Lord and have a way of making others feel good. When I see them kick the ball and make a goal they always have a smile on their face. It is a big accomplishment for them. Letting them have this experience also helps them feel like they are like their other friends. The best part for me is seeing the players from opposing teams come together at the end of a game to cheer. They feel like they are all one big team! We can all learn from them. We also involve youth of High School and Jr High School age to help mentor the soccer players. It is a great way to help the youth see the blessings they have and to serve someone else. They all tell me how much they love helping and want to come again. They can feel the sweet spirits of these children too. I love helping others. My time is limited, but I take time to see who I can help each day. This is something I try to pray about and ask for guidance of who to help and what to do. One of my favorite memories is taking my children all over the neighborhood shoveling snow or making treats and having my children deliver them anonymously.
