Hi I'm Gene

I am a college professor. I like to restore antique vehicles. Most of all I love my family. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am an ecology professor. I am fascinated by the natural world and how it functions. Our world is beautifully intricate and fascinating in its complexity, yet resilient and dependable. Scientists and naturalist have discovered much concerning the processes that govern the natural world. Still "...even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, ...do witness that there is a Supreme Creator." (Alma 30:44). I enjoy helping students to learn, appreciate and understand the world we live in. It is inspiring to watch the college students, I interact with, grow, excel and improve. I like to restore antique cars. Tinkering with old cars, till they run like new, is fun and exciting. Test driving my car with my daughter is the highlight of any day. It is especially fun to take my family out for ice cream in my old car. I also like to build furniture and other objects from wood. On the other hand, it is even more fun to help others with my abilities and skills to complete their projects and their dreams.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church). As I tried to live what I learned in church, I realized that these things made me happy. As I grew older I began to read the scriptures for myself. As I read the scriptures I received a spiritual witness (a testimony) of the truthfulness of the words that the scriptures contained. More importantly I gained a testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ, of who he is and his mission. I continue to live my live in accordance to the gospel taught to us by Jesus Christ and his prophets. Because I try my best to live the gospel of Jesus Christ, my life is full of happiness and joy. I love the Savior and his message of eternal hope and joy.

How I live my faith

Every day, I try to live the simple principles taught by Jesus Christ. The parable of the "Good Samaritan" (Luke 10: 30-35)is one of my favorites. I may not meet someone "beaten by thieves", but I can greet people with kind words, small acts of kindness, words of encouragement and even just a happy smile. I enjoy reading the scriptures daily and praying to my Father in Heaven daily. Reading the scriptures and praying to my Father in Heaven makes me happy. These activities also help me to keep understand and remember what is really important in this life. Through reading the scriptures, I learn what God’s will is for me. Knowing what God want for me helps to lift me up especially in the tough times of life.
