Hi I'm Sonya

I grew up in Virginia. I am studying Exercise Physiology at BYU-I and I'm going on a mission to Chile. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of four kids. I love to be outdoors. Hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding are my three favorite activities. I also love music and the theater. I play the piano, tenor sax, and I sing. I am leaving for my mission in Chile Vina del Mar on January 28th, 2013.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church and raised as a Mormon. However, it wasn't until I was in High School that I made an effort to have a testimony of my own. I would sit and church and here other members say that they know the gospel is true, etc. And it frustrated and bothered me that I couldn't say it for myself. So I made the decision to actually the read the Book of Mormon and pray to know for myself whether it is true or not. Ever since that time, I have never had a doubt in my mind whether the church is true or not. The feelings I received while I read and studied the Book of Mormon are indescribable. I had a peace and warmth that overwhelmed me, and I finally felt that I knew what my purpose was here on earth. Growing up I had made some regrettable mistakes, but through the atonement of Jesus Christ I have been able to return to the path of righteousness. I have a strong testimony of our Heavenly Father's plan of salvation. I know that we were provided with a Savior so that we could repent from our sins and always strive to do better and be better. I am grateful for our agency so that we can learn from our mistakes and grow from our experiences. The priesthood is such a blessing in my life, and I know that it is through the power and authority of the priesthood that binds ordinances and covenants both in Heaven and on earth.

How I live my faith

I currently do not have a calling, but I'm going to be set apart as a missionary for the church. In the past I have mainly been involved in the music program playing piano.
