Hi I'm Derek Soares de Melo

I'm from Joinville, SC - Brasil. I'm a mechanical engineering student. I'm a missionary. I'm Mormon.

About Me

I love to learn. That's why one of my favorite hobbies, for more strange that it seems, is to study. So, since I was fourteen I studied a lot of different courses. Right now I am at the college, studying Mechanical Engineering. I identify myself with robotics, I love technology. I have a considerably big family, since my grandparents had twelve children, and each one has an average of 2 children. I love my family, we have a lot of fun together and we learn with each other.

Why I am a Mormon

It was a hard decision of my life, but I think that until now, it was the best. Since I was a child I was catholic, as all of my family. With time, mainly when my adolescence came, I started to stop believing on the things that I learned. I observed some contradictions in the scriptures, what made me stop believing on the sacredness of the holy scriptures. Then, some day I met someone different from anyone else, someone that looked very very different, that had a bright on the eyes, some brightness that I wanted, a brightness of happiness. I started to search for the font of that, and I discovered that she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, then I started to go to church. The missionaries started o teach me. I agreed with what they taught me, it seemed perfect. But, there was some things that I disagreed, as stop driking coffe or serve on a voluntary full time mission. So I decided to not afiliate to the church. But I kept doing what the missionaries told me to do: Ask God if it was true, and after one month asking I received an answer, something that I could not deny that came from God. Then I entered with my head, I was baptized, and since then, each day I found more reasons to be a Mormon. I love it each day more. I am each day spiritually stronger. I am, each day more, sure that this gospel is true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith based on the two highest commandments of the lord. First, Love God above all things and Second, similar to the first, Love the next as I love myself. To learn better how to do it, each sunday I go to the church, where I learn principles that I can apply on my everyday life. I'm a member of the church for no long time, but anyway I had the oportunity to serve on a lot of callings as bishop's assistant and ward missionary, when I was seventeen. And I served as a full-time missionary on the Brazil Sao Paulo East Mission, helping the most people that I could to learn the same principles that brought me a lot of happiness on these days. I served as a financial secretary at the mission, where I realized a lot of financial activities and house activities, as renting, missionary funds, administration and organization of the mission and much more. On this period I could see how the church is correct with the sacred funds that comes from tithing and offerings. All of those were wonderful voluntary works, which had made me to live my faith and built the character that I have today. I love this gospel, many blessings I received by the obedience of the commandments, or, those principles that I learned each day at the church.
