Hi I'm Laura S. Kearney

I was born in the Midwest, and I still live there. I am an author with several books published. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am widowed with three children, two of them adults. My interests are reading, writing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with my family. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and I write fantasy and medieval adventure for children and young adults. I have several books published. I also write poetry and short stories when something inspires me, and I have had several pieces published in college magazines during school. I also served as a committee member on one of the magazines. It was a nice experience to see the other side of publishing. Becoming widowed through a tragic accident left me clinging to the Church for support and stability. Continuing our daily routine of family prayer, family scripture study, and Family Home Evening and attending church and activities has kept a sense of normalcy for me and my daughter. I also know that I have an entire church family to call on for help whenever I need them. Despite this tragedy in my life, I know that I will be with my husband again and that we will remain together for eternity.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I received a testimony in my early twenties that the church was true. My brother had been a member for many years, but it took me a while to gain my own testimony. Once I did, I have never regretted it. The church has been an anchor in my life to hold me firm against the storms that have blown around me. I have been through many difficulties in my life, and having the gospel kept me centered and focused during those times. I know that I am in the right place and I am doing what Heavenly Father wants me to do.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of the Church since the late 80's. I have served in many callings in the church, including teaching and music leading. I currently serve in the Primary Presidency. My family feels very strongly about reading the scriptures and praying daily alone and as a family. We always try to make time once a week to study gospel principles and have fun together. Despite several health issues, I try to participate in as many church and service related activities as I can. I have worked at a local church co-op, donated food or items to our local homeless shelter, and invite the missionaries over frequently. As a family, we are always looking for ways to help others.
