Hi I'm Mark

I grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I love the outdoors, have college degrees in forestry and wildlife. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married (41 years now), and my wife and I have been blessed with 8 wonderful children. All 8 children are now married, and we have been blessed to have 21 grandchildren. I have always liked the outdoors, and was able to pursue a college education that coincided with that interest. I have a BS degree in Forestry and a MS Degree in Wildlife Management. I worked for the U. S. Forest Service for about 34 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I was very blest to be born into a family with great parents who taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ, both by word and deed. I was baptized when I was 8 years of age by my father, who held the priesthood and had the authority to perform that sacred ordinance. When I was still a young boy, I had 2 unique experiences that left deep impressions about Heavenly Father's love for me. One experience was when I ran to cross a street before looking for cars. A car that was not stopping for a red light narrowly missed me, and my mother and others who were screaming and watching told me that it was a miracle that the car had not hit me. The other experience was when I had a dream about being in a particular place. A few days later, when riding my bike I discovered that I was in the exact place that I had seen in my dream. But the most important experience occurred when I was attending college. I had not attended church for about 2 years, and one Sunday I decided to attend Church. On the walk back to my dormitory after Church services, I heard these words spoken directly to me: "This is where you should be." I turned to see who was talking to me, but no one was there. I realized that it was the Holy Ghost speaking to me. So powerful was that short message, I can still vividly remember today (43 years later) hearing those words. I have also read the scriptures (Holy Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price), and have received a testimony born by the Holy Ghost that they are true. I have read and studied about the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith, and have received a testimony born by the Holy Ghost that Joseph Smith was the prophet called by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to restore the complete and true Church of Jesus Christ to the earth. I have a testimony that a living prophet leads and guides the Church today.

How I live my faith

I have been given many opportunities to serve in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka the Mormon Church). I have been a Bishop twice, and a Branch President twice. Bishops and Branch Presidents serve as leaders for local congregations of the Church. I have also been a mission leader for several local congregations of the Church. For about 40 years I have been a hometeacher for the Church, with the opportunity to visit individuals families and teach them about the gospel of Jesus Christ and serve them when they need help. For one year I was elected Mayor for a small unincorporated town (this was an unpaid position), with the primary responsibility of keeping the town's water system working. I have been involved with the Boy Scouts of America for 43 years; this includes 3 years as a cub scout, 7 years as a boy scout, and 33 years as a volunteer leader. I was recently awarded the Silver Beaver Award for many years of service with the Boy Scouts of America.
