Hi I'm Joan

I grew up in New York State. I am a convert to the Church , a mother of 4 and grandmother of 13

About Me

I like spending time with family, going out to eat and site-seeing. I look for interesting things to photograph. I like to go to the seashore during a storm to watch the surf or to walk in woods and see the sun dance among the trees. Landscapes are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. I also like to try and capture emotions in my pictures of people. I like to read, play cribbage and board games.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up my family did not attend church. My Grandfather drove my sister and I to the Episcopal church and waited outside. When I was 15 years old, I wanted to know if there was a God. I prayed that if there was a God ,please lead me to the true church. I then visited many churches with friends and neighbors. In college I went to any church that my friends were attending. I was married in the Congregational Church . While we were stationed in Germany with the United States Army,Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints taught us about the restored gospel .We recognized the truths they taught and within 6 weeks we were baptized into the church. My life has been a wonderful journey with my husband who is a faithful holder of the priesthood. The teachings of the church helped us raise our children with good morals and start them off with Christ-like attributes. I continue as a Mormon because I have found that following the commandments and serving in Christ's restored church brings me great comfort and peace and gives direction to my life. I love my Savior and want to be more like Him. He is the light for my life's journey.

How I live my faith

I strive to pattern my life after the example that Jesus Christ set; to be kind and forgiving and to help others. I have taught children, youth and adults in Church callings. I have been a leader of children, youth and adult groups at church and in the community. I have a degree in teaching and have had a few opportunities to teach in public and vocational schools although not full time as I was a full-time mom while my children were at home. I was a real estate broker for many years. The last 6 years have been spent in temple service and full-time service as a missionary in eastern Europe and in the United States along with my husband.
