Hi I'm Todd

I am a religious educator, a father of 8 and a grandfather of 17. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My youngest child is 20. My oldest grandchild is almost 16. Besides spending time with family and teaching religion classes; I love gardening, stained glass, genealogical research, participating in a theatre company, taking long walks, and listening to audio books.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Mormon faith, and am grateful for generations of ancestors who have made faith a foundation in my life. Grandparents found the Mormon faith in Ireland, Denmark, England and Scotland. Their stories of conversion have always inspired me. When very young, I felt the desire to serve a mission for our faith and was called to serve in Chile. That was my first exposure to friends of other faiths. Since then, I have developed friendships with individuals of multiple religious denominations in Arizona, Utah and Michigan. My faith in God has been strengthened by those associations. I love God and am eternally grateful to him for His Son and their plan for our salvation.

How I live my faith

In my church, I work with a young adult congregations. I attend meetings and activities with them, training them to serve and teach others. I also enjoy singing in our church choir, and helping neighbors with gardening and genealogical research. I also enjoy teach Sunday school classes and participating in church councils. Living my faith is why I try to smile at others on the subway and in the elevator, and respond with kindness when others are upset or discouraged.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Todd
I love both the Bible and The Book of Mormon. The religion classes I have taught as part of my vocation have been equally split between the Old Testament, New Testament, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Book of Mormon. The Old Testament is amazing because of its prophetic declarations and its witness of the anticipated Messiah. The New Testament is filled with miracles and parables that bring the Messiah into our daily lives, and the the teachings of Paul as he evangelizes among the gentiles. The Doctrine and Covenants illustrates the guidance from God to establish a church in a world of diversity. The Book of Mormon is unique in that it describes the efforts of a people to find Christ and follow him. His revelations to Book of Mormon Prophets and his eventual visit to "His Other Sheep", are reaffirming to me. Joseph taught the early members of the church that the precepts taught in the Book of Mormon would bring them "nearer to god." I am so grateful for what the Book of Mormon teaches and the effect it has on my life. I feel that it does bring me "nearer to god". Show more Show less
