Hi I'm Sean

I've lived & worked in Vientiane, the SF Bay Area, Melbourne, Provo, Shanghai & Silicon Valley. I'm an entrepreneur & I'm Mormon.

About Me

As an immigrant from Laos, I came to the US with my family and started a new life in the San Francisco Bay Area. After one semester in college, I paused my schooling and spent two years as a volunteer service missionary in Melbourne, Australia working with the Chinese community--an experience that changed my life. I married my college sweetheart and we now live in the SF Bay Area with our three sons. We spent two years living in Shanghai, China where I worked for a tech startup (my second startup in China). The family enjoyed our adventure living in China and spent a lot time together making friends from all over the world and visiting beautiful and interesting places in the region. Returning to the San Francisco Bay Area, we are enjoying the blessings of being back home with friends and family nearby. I'm working at another startup in Silicon Valley and my family is getting back to normal life with school and community activities.

Why I am a Mormon

My family and I joined the LDS church shortly after immigrating to the US so I grew up with the church in my life. As a young boy, I noticed the blessings of living the Gospel in my family. After accepting the principle that families are forever, my parents prioritized the family above everything else. We spent more time together weekly and although my father worked several jobs concurrently to support the family, he made time to attend church with us every Sunday. I didn't understand everything that happened around me when I was young, but I knew that my family loved each other and we were happy. My wife and I strive to raise our three boys with the same principles: happiness comes from the family and from living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through the teachings of the church and revealed truths from living prophets and apostles of Jesus Christ, I know who I am, why I'm here on earth and where I want to go after I die. This knowledge gives me purpose and direction in my life. The church has taught me to be a good father and husband. And although I am not perfect and often make mistakes, I know that I can repent and be forgiven as I try to become more and more like my Savior Jesus Christ. If you want to find the path of happiness then l encourage you to learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormons. If you seek to know the truth, He will lead you and He will answer your questions. He has answered mine.

How I live my faith

I have been richly blessed serving in my church and have been able to serve as primary teacher, a scoutmaster for our local Boy Scout troop, a youth leader and many other roles. My current responsibility includes working with other local churches and community organizations to encourage the community to serve each other. In one recent event, we participated in preparing, cooking and serving Thanksgiving meals at a local Catholic church. More than 100 volunteers participated from our local LDS church including my family. I'm also putting my startup experience to use by promoting a website, www.JustServe.org, that encourages the community to post and participate in service opportunities. I also enjoy the small service opportunities that focus on the individual members in my church. For example, whenever there is a family moving into the area, I try to make time to help because when my family moved into the area there were several people that helped me and my wife with our move. I am constantly reminded of the "Golden Rule" of "doing to others as you would have done to you" because my friends and neighbors are constantly helping me and my family. This constant service provided to me and my family inspires me to serve others.
