Hi I'm Tyler Baker

I grew up in Utah. Graduated from Springville High. I'm preparing to serve a mission in Taiwan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up mostly in Springville. I went to college for 1 year majoring in Exercise Science. I am getting ready to serve in the Taiwan Taichung mission. I absolutely love running and cooking! I have played the Viola for nearly 8 years.

Why I am a Mormon

My mom has always been a member of the church and my dad wasn't a member until he met my mom. We did not attend church consistently until I was 9 and we had just moved to Utah. From then until I went to college we went to church nearly every week. When I moved away to college it was a lot harder for me to continue going to church. While I had lived most of my life in the church I had never really learned for myself it was true or not. I just did as I was told. After 3-4 weeks of being moved away I had completely stopped going to church and started making bad choices, none of which were huge but bad all the same. None of my roommates were LDS and so it was even easier to justify my actions. The missionaries came to our door one day asking for one of my roommates who was not a member of the church at the time and he began taking the lessons. After 2 or so lessons he asked me to come with him so that I could learn with him. Soon they had him going to church every Sunday and reading the Book of Mormon everyday. I wasn't following him though. I had stalled until he came to me and just challenged me to do these things with him. While it took a lot of work he got me to come back and actually have faith in the church and truly believe in our church. I love this church so much and am so thankful for my roommate and the amazing example he is to me everyday! I know this is the true church on earth and am thankful for that knowledge. I know that no one is perfect! I sure won't claim to be so, but i know that through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we can become closer to Christ and our Heavenly Father that we may become perfect like them one day.

How I live my faith

I just moved into my ward but I still love serving the people here. I have a home teaching assignment for one family, and elderly couple, and I love them so much! Having recently become an elder I had the authority to give the husband a blessing just before he went into back surgery. It was my first blessing and it was an amazing experience. I also have the opportunity to teach the 13 year old class on Sundays and I have really enjoyed that. I have learned so much just preparing the lessons for them but also learned a lot from their comments in class.
