Hi I'm Don

I am a Canadian. Husband, father, grandfather, love sports, music and socializing. I am a Christian, I am a Mormon !!

About Me

I am blessed to be a husband to a sweet wife of 40+ years and have been blessed with four children and presently have four grandchildren. Have a degree in History/Psychology/Education and hence enjoy people and their life stories (his/herstory). I thoroughly enjoy sports as a participant ( ice hockey, soccer, golf etc ) and also as a coach, officiator, convenor and sports website co-ordinator. I also enjoy music vocally and have recently began taking violin lessons. I am an avid reader and especially enjoy reading and studying religion and its historical impact on cultures and human interactions. I am actively involved in Community issues such as a supporter of our Local Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, and Community Athletic Programs. I am intested in sustaining the environment and hope to become more actively involved in certain initiatives that I personally believe in . Recently retired from the working world and now am harvesting the benefits which the fraternity of GRANDPARENTHOOD offers all of its recipients with countless opportunities for hugs, kisses, playtime and NAPTIME. LIFE IS GOOD AND CONTINUES TO GET BETTER.

Why I am a Mormon

If I had to point to a single event that changed me in becoming the person I am today, it was at the age of 17. I made the conscious choice to find out for myself if there really was a God and what did He want for me and from me. This search of discovery led me to not only find Him, but I came to Love Him as I was born again, through receiving a spiritual witness of the Holy Spirit that God is a living and loving God. He wanted for me what He wants from each of us, to accept the precious gift of His Son Jesus Christ and allow Christ to be a guiding influence in my daily life so that He could make my journey through life, one with purpose, and one filled with joy and happiness. I have found that the teachings of the Church, are practical and make sense as I have internalized them into my life. God's ways bless and enrich my life and offer me the freedom to enjoy life to its fullest. I have never lived a commandment that was bad for me or injured me. I have never felt bad by doing good, but I have felt bad about doing wrong. Sometimes we make life too complicated when in fact since our earliest memories from childhood to adulthood we can see that when you do good you feel good, and when you do bad things you feel bad. So do good and feel good. The Churches teachings are practical Christianity, wherein our lives can be blessed, spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. In fact I feel very confident that it is God's plan to assist us in growing in all our human capacities to be changed by Christ in becoming the person that God knows that we have the potential to become, and that is to be a beloved son or daughter of God with HIs divine nature within us. I believe that the Church offers the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and is an all inclusive Gospel for all of Gods children here on earth. Christ is the message, the medicine and the great healer for the struggles and problems of this life. Let Him help you to be the person that you long to be.

How I live my faith

Life is an amazing adventure to be enjoyed but true happiness as a Christian is by helping to make the journey for everyone you meet enjoyable as well. I find that if I am pleasant, kind, happy and enthusiastic about each day that it has a positive effect on those I meet and interact with. I often have asked myself, " Are you enjoying the journey of being a Christian and enjoying your membership in the Church and kingdom of God ? I have tried to internalize the teachings of Christ into my life which in turn has enriched my marriage my family, friends and community. I love and respect myself as a Child of God and also value and respect others as equally valued sons or daughters of God. My life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has been an amazing journey and I daily thank God for His blessings especially for the gift of Christ and the Great Plan of Happiness. I have served in many callings within the Church and have found each to be a learning and growing experience. I desired to share with others the joy that I felt as a Christian and served a full time mission in the England Birmingham Mission. This prepared me for a life of Christian service within my home and family and within my community. I served as a Bishop of a wonderful congregation for 6 years and it was 6 of the best years of my life. I loved the members and they loved me. I thank God for His tender mercies and for allowing me to use His Atonement to correct my many imperfections.
