Hi I'm Parry

I'm a Stay-at-home dad. My lovely wife is a lawyer. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.

About Me

I love food. American's test kitchen, Silver palate cookbook, Food Network, DDD, Alton Brown, Zagats, Yelp, and so on. One of my favorite food experiences was the pizza tour around Naples, Italy my wife organized for us. I always try to develop a shortlist of restaurants to hit wherever I live. I enjoy longboarding. One time I helped make a longboard safety video. Quiver includes LBL Bamboo OSD, Loaded Tan Tien, S9 Pintail on Carvers, +2 more. I like music that is danceable and has synthesizers. Other music is OK too, I guess.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in Ann Arbor Michigan the religious leaders in my ward encouraged me to gain my own testimony of the gospel. This encouragement was consistent throughout my youth. I remember sitting in class one Sunday and hearing the teacher comment on the importance of Jesus Christ's sacrifice for me when it hit me. I didn't even know if this central or core part of the gospel, on which all things hinge, was even true. I made up my mind to find out if it was true. Following the words in Alma 32:28-43 in the Book of Mormon, I ran an experiment. I read and prayed and kept an open mind and heart. As Alma 32 indicates I felt a real change inside me such that I desired to read the scriptures. It was a strong desire, more than anything I had experienced before. It was an interesting experience as I wasn't much of a reader but found myself engrossed in the word of God. A short time later I also experienced the Lord's Peace. Working a part-time job, managing high school finals (and personal drama!), preparing for a music competition all while attending a religious class before school (seminary) meant I was pretty stressed. Amidst my young crises the Lord let me know He was there and my anxiety and stress was completely overcome by a strong and consistent feeling of Peace and renewed strength. While maintaining my commitments and efforts I floated over those weeks of trauma with what must have been angels wings. It was like nothing I have ever experienced before or since but the effect was profound and I know that the Lord was watching over me.

How I live my faith

I'm a den leader for a pack of Webelos Boy Scouts. I pick up trash around the neighborhood a bit at a time.
