Hi I'm Barry

I grew up in Iowa. I'm a filmmaker. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I finished graduate school with a master's degree in Creative Writing. I enjoy getting to know new people and learning of their personal stories. I love laughing, being light-hearted, campfires and pizza.

Why I am a Mormon

After my parents joined this church and married, I was born into this faith, but I stay with it because I know it gives me a strong foundation to stand on in this raging storm of life. I have had many opportunities and reasons to give up my faith, but when my mind is overshadowed by darkness, I cling to this gospel, search for answers through the scriptures; and my mind is lightened again and again. I find treasures of wisdom with the trials I have to face because I have perspective. The temple is the most wonderful asset that I have in finding peace and strength. There is no other place in the world that can offer that. I walk in with a heavy and intense mind with emotions that are almost unbearable and I always walk out with all of it lifted off of me. That is the power of the temple. I love this gospel with all of my heart and I love Jesus Christ with all of my heart. I love that man and prophet Joseph Smith who did all he could do to start the restoration of this true and full gospel. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God along with the Bible and anyone who has a humble heart in seeking truth can know that, too.

How I live my faith

Right now I am a Family History Consultant for my church and it has been the best calling I have ever had. I see how it opens my perspective with my everyday life knowing that my fathers and mothers of the past have struggled like me. I feel their hearts empathize for me as I for them. That is a great feeling. I can see other people feel that same thing when I talk about it with them.
