Hi I'm Tom Wheeler

I'm an artist, a web site developer, a teacher, and a dad. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy oil painting, website development, running, reading, and lately I've taken up skiing. I went to BYU where I studied art and illustration. My wife and I have 5 kids, 4 boys and 1 girl. We live a busy and full life. I build websites for a living, working from home with my own business. I enjoy programming almost as much as painting - although they are very different activities. I've also taught courses (part-time) for the past 14 years at a local college. We live in Washington state.

Why I am a Mormon

I love studying and teaching the gospel. I have studied the scriptures - including the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and know they are true. They are filled with the spirit of God and by reading them I learn much about the Lord and his ways. I also gain insights into myself and things I need to work on, to improve. I also gain a great deal from prayer. Quiet personal prayer helps me to feel closer to God, and to feel his love and interest in me. I know that as we follow the commandments of Jesus Christ, and the counsel of his living modern apostles and prophet - we are blessed. I know this because I've seen it in my own life. We have experienced many personal blessings, in all areas of our lives. Following the gospel is the way to greater happiness and inner peace. This is not to say there aren't challenges, but we are better prepared to meet challenges, and to overcome them. Above all, my testimony is based on the spiritual experiences I have had. I have felt the spirit very deeply while serving and working in our local temple. I have had sweet spiritual feelings and experiences as I've taught the gospel, as I've testified, as I've given priesthood blessings, and many other times. Through these experiences, I know that God is real - and I know this church is in fact the restored church of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope and pray that many others can find the truth as we have.

How I live my faith

About 20 years ago I served a mission to Florida. Since then I've been privileged to serve in many ways in the church. I've worked mostly with the young men in various callings (like scouting). I've also served as a ward mission leader, and an early morning seminary teacher. I'm currently in the bishopric in my ward. I enjoy going to youth activities, and helping to build testimonies and strengthen our great young people as they grow up and prepare for adulthood. We do lots of different service projects, fun social activities, camp-outs and of course - church!
