Hi I'm Katie

I'm a book obsessed, basketball loving, wannabe-vegan, sleep deprived college student. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I read a book a week, eat too many potatoes, love rainy days, take Sunday naps, play basketball, enjoy writing essays, regularly procrastinate, obsess over my hair, and love my family more than anything. I'm from Boise, Idaho. My mom and dad are both teachers and have instilled in me a love of learning since I was a little kid. They have always encouraged me to seek after knowledge and to learn things for myself. They've taught me through example to be kind to everyone and to reach out and help those around me. I have an older brother and an older sister who have been amazing examples of what to do my entire life. They are my best friends and having them in my life brings me so much joy. I'm a student at Brigham Young University, where I am currently trying to figure out what I want to do with my life; a task that is proving to be much more difficult than I had previously anticipated. Being completely unsure about so much has made me realize the few things that I know to be true. Here are the things I am absolutely sure of: Reading is my favorite, Shakespeare is brilliant, you should always have someone on the short corner and high post against a zone defense, writing is fun, little kids are the cutest, my family is the best, God loves us, the Book of Mormon is true and Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself for me and for every other person.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because both of my parents converted to this church when they were teenagers. I am a Mormon because they felt the Spirit testify to them that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. I have chosen to be a Mormon because I feel the Spirit confirm the truth of it to me every single day. I have read the Book of Mormon. I have learned about Joseph Smith. I have read about Jesus Christ and the life that He lived and sacrificed. I have prayed to ask God if it is all true. The Spirit has confirmed to me that God exists and loves each of us, that Joseph Smith did in reality see God and Jesus Christ, that the Book of Mormon and the Bible are true, and that Jesus Christ lived a perfect life and sacrificed Himself so that we would have the ability ask for forgiveness and be able to feel comfort and peace in times of sorrow. I am a Mormon because I know that Christ loves me. It is because of His sacrifice for us that no matter what I'm going through in my life, He will understand and be there to comfort, strengthen, and help me. I have always felt His influence in my life when I ask for it, and sometimes even when I don't. He is my Savior, my older brother, my example, my confidant, my best friend, and the most reliable and loving person I know.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving every single day to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. I do this by remembering Him in all that I do each day. Whether I'm loaning a pencil to a classmate, cleaning up the kitchen for my roommates, holding the door for the cute boy at the library, or taking the opportunity to share my beliefs with those around me in conversation or on social media, I am constantly trying to remember Christ, what He would do, and how He would treat those around Him. Trying to do this each day helps me to remember Christ's love for each of us. When I remember Him, I can see others the way that He sees them, and treating them with the love and respect that they deserve becomes an opportunity rather than an obligation. I live my faith by studying the word of God each morning when I wake up. I take time to read, ponder, and pray about the words God has given to us. Doing so each morning keeps Christ in my thoughts throughout the day, and consequently gives me a positive attitude and outlook. The scriptures are full of situations, stories, and phrases that can directly relate to each one of our lives and can bring us feelings of peace, joy and comfort. I am going to live my faith by sacrificing a year and a half of my life to be a representative of my Savior, Jesus Christ, by serving a mission in Fukuoka, Japan. I am going to leave my entire life behind in order to completely dedicate my time to bringing others to Christ and His love and sacrifice for each one of us.
