Hi I'm Ben Fairbanks

I was born and raised in Western Colorado, I love music and the outdoors. And I'm a Mormon

About Me

I love to be outside. Where I've grown up I have had the opportunity to hike, mountain bike, fly fish, hunt, swim, boat, and any number of other outdoor activities. I have been involved with Boy Scouts of America since I turned 8 and joined cub scouts, and continued on until this past summer when I successfully earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Often I enjoy these activities with friends and relatives. I love making new friends and I look forward to meeting and getting to know new people. Through high school, I played in every band possible, and learned a new instrument when I could, however my primary instrument is trumpet. I graduated high school in May of 2013. I am the oldest of 4 kids, I have two younger brothers who are 18 and 16, and a little sister who is 13.

Why I am a Mormon

I've grown up in the church, but there were many times when I wasn't sure why I was a member. When those times came, there was always an opportunity to spend time in the out doors and grow closer to God. Many of these opportunities I received through scouting trips, as well as family camping trips. I had the chance to ask God if what I was doing as a member of the church was what I needed to be doing. I quickly got the calm reassurance that this church, and it's teachings, are true. In October of 2012, the LDS church changed the age for young men to be able to serve a mission from 19 to 18. At the time I didn't know what to think about it. I had made plans to do a year of college and make some money to support me on my mission before going. As I prayed about it I got the answer that if I chose to go when I turned 18, or if I chose to wait, it would still work out. During a church meeting one Sunday, I was reading through our hymn book. As I read, the second verse of a hymn called "We Are All Enlisted" struck me with so much weight that I knew what I needed to do. This verse reads; "Hark! the sound of battle sounding loudly and clear; come join the ranks! Come join the ranks! We are waiting now for soldiers; who'll volunteer? Rally round the standard of the cross. Hark 'tis our Captain calls you today; Lose not a moment, make no delay! Fight for our Savior; come, come away..." It was at that moment that I knew that God needed as many volunteers as possible for the ranks he was assembling. I knew that I needed to fight for the Savior in this world that so often tries to ignore what he has done for us. And so I enlisted and joined the ranks. I put in my mission papers, and received my call to the Calgary Canada mission.

How I live my faith

I was the junior assistant scout master for my troop, and I enjoyed working with younger boys and teaching them things that I have learned through my own experiences. I like to help neighbors and friends with yard work and other projects as often as I can. I am currently serving in the Calgary Canada mission. And I'm loving every minute of it!!!
