Hi I'm Brittany

I am a college student and I want to become a pediatric nurse so I can help others and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was five years old when my parents got divorced. My mother kidnapped my brother and I and took us cross country. She never told my dad where she was taking us and he spent two years not knowing where we were. My mother remarried and her new husband was very unkind to my younger brother and I. I spent a long time believing that God hated me and was punishing me, by putting me into a family that didn't love me. Shortly after my 15th birthday, my mother and her husband were sent to prison and I moved back to Arizona with my dad. It was the first time that I could ever remember being truly love. My family has been the greatest blessing in my life. During my Sophomore year of high school I decided that I wanted to go to college and become a nurse. I worked extremely hard and earned a full scholarship to a university. I was introduced to the church when I first moved to Arizona by my best friend. she was very patient and never pressured me to join the church. she offered her support as I worked through my relationship to my Heavenly Father. When I was ready she helped me to join the church shortly after my 18th Birthday.

Why I am a Mormon

I never saw my self as being religious in any sense, its not that I didn't believe in religion, I just had a very bad experience when I was younger with another church. As a young teenager my mother used to take e to a church in our very small town. this church was very prejudice towards other religions, and even had sermons that preached how bad other religions were. I have always been a very open minded individual and because of my youth i didn't want to belong to any organization that was so prejudiced towards other. I though that one church was just like another. So when my friends told me that they were Mormon, I thought they would be as close minded as the other church I had attended when I was younger. I have never been more incorrect in my life. The more time I spent with my friends the more I came to realize that the church they belonged to was very different than any other church I had ever attended. They were always asking my opinions on certain matters and they never judged me because my beliefs were different. I am a Mormon because I have never felt more accepted as an individual when I am in church. The church makes me feel like it is ok to be who I am. They accept me as family and they are my family.

How I live my faith

I attend church at the institute of religion building near my university. I love going there to hang out with my friends. We have activities every Monday night. We do a lot of service activities that benefit our community. I enjoy helping others and that was the main thing that drew me to the church. For example, we made blankets for a women's shelter a few months ago. Over Halloween we did a trick or treats for cans activity, where we went out into the community and collected cans for a food drive. We have dances and other fun activities that allow college students to enjoy themselves in a safe environment.
