Hi I'm Mike

I was born in Idaho and have lived in California, Utah, New York, Virginia, Tennessee and Germany. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I studied Accounting and got a Bachelors degree in Accounting. Then I got my CPA in 1985. Many years later I got an MBA. I served in the Army for 8 years and then worked as an Accountant for the Department of Army for 21 years. I like the outdoors, sports (favorite sport is football), fishing, hiking, bike riding, running and just being in nature. I also love to read and watch movies. My most favorite activity though is to spend time with family. I have a son and a daughter who are both married and we have 9 grandchildren, 8 are girls and 1 boy. My wife is from Germany and so our grandchildren use the German terms for grandparents, Oma for my wife and they call me Opa.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that has a long history as members of the church. On my fathers side all of my Great, Great grandparents joined the church in Sweden or England and then immigrated across the ocean and the plains to Utah in the mid to late 1800's. I was raised in the church, but I struggled as a teenager and fell away. At the age of 21 I joined the army and was stationed in Germany. After I had been there for about a year I started to realize that there was something missing from my life. I thought about it a lot and realized that what I was missing was the church. I prayed and fasted a lot and started to read the Book of Mormon. As I did so I gained my own testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel. I then found where the church was meeting and began attending and living all the commandments of God. I have been so blessed because of the gospel. I met my wife through the church, was married and have a wonderful family that is sealed to me for all Eternity. I'm so grateful for my ancestors and the sacrifices that they made in joining the church. But it wasn't until I found out for myself that the gospel is true and began living it that I really understood why they had made the sacrifices they had and joined the church. It is the gospel that has truly blessed me and my family and given me what I had so longed for.

How I live my faith

I've served in a lot of callings in the church. I've served as a leader and have been a bishop and a stake president, but my favorite calling has been and is to teach and especially to teach the youth.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

I was raised in the church, but it wasn't until I studied it out and then prayed to my Heavenly Father that I received the Holy Ghost's spirit and knew, not just thought, but knew that the church is true. You too can find out if it is true by studying and they praying with real intent to find out if it is true. You have to truly want to know, not just being curious that it may be true. You have to really want to know and put forth the effort. Then you'll know. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Mormons are normal people who work, play, have families and sometimes make mistakes, but they try to live like Jesus taught us to live. We love our fellow human beings and love to serve the Lord. We go to church on Sunday's and then strive to live the gospel all week long. We're not perfect, but we want to improve ourselves and those around us. Show more Show less
