Hi I'm Shirley

I grew up in Virginia and joined the church when I was 19. I am a wife and a mother of 4. I am proud to be a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up outside of DC. I thought I would always live in that area but ended up living in Florida, Washington, and traveling all over the world since I got married. Traveling has become a hobby. My husband and I have four children and they keep me busy. I have been a stay at home wife/mother for 15 years now and am still trying to figure out how to run our household smoothly. Maybe one day it will happen.

Why I am a Mormon

I remember being very young and watching the "mormon" commercials on tv. They were pretty silly. My first interaction with Mormons was in high school. Everyone just knew who they were. My brother was introduced to the church through friends at school. I learned more about the church once he became a member. I was 19 when I finally realized after being taught by missionaries that even though I wasn't looking for a change or religion in my life or anything like that, that I had to be a part of this church. I am thankful that my parents raised me to believe in God and Jesus Christ growing up but there wasn't much religious direction for me once I had my first communion at the age of 9. When I started hearing about the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I knew it was true. And knowing it was true I could not deny wanting to be a part of it. I know my life would be different if I hadn't joined the church at 19. I think I would have been content with whatever path I went down. But having joined the church I am truly happy for my life now with my husband and children. Knowing without a doubt that I can live with them for eternity and to be able to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ too is true happiness.

How I live my faith

We live in a great community within our church and outside of it. I have been blessed to help with the young children in our ward and the teens for several years now in the different places we have lived in. I am in charge of teaching them about the church but over the years I have definitely learned from each one of them. I love that the church is not just a part of our life but makes up our life as a family.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Our prophet is President Thomas S. Monson. We believe he was chosen by God to lead our church at this time under the direction of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
