Hi I'm Ryan StarWars Saunders

I'm an Actor, an aspiring Filmmaker, a future Academy Award-winner, and an out-and-proud Mormon.

About Me

I was gonna wait and do a Mormon.org profile until I was famous and it'd be a bigger deal. But then, why make a scandal of my belief when I can be an out-and-proud Mormon right now! I've wanted to be part of the movies for as long as I can remember. To me, Cinema goes right between God and Country. I've been acting since I was 12 and I've been daydreaming about movies much longer than that. I've never felt more at home than I have at a movie theater. My favorite movie is Star Wars, but since that's so obvious, I usually tell people it's either The Godfather or The Dark Knight. Also among my favorites are Raging Bull, Inception, The Avengers, The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly, Gran Torino, Dirty Harry, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Unforgiven, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Amadeus, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Pulp Fiction, Se7en, No Country for Old Men, Rocky, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Fugitive, Ben-Hur, The Best Years of Our Lives, Walk the Line, Toy Story, Citizen Kane, Rain Man, The Graduate, Airplane!, and Blazing Saddles, GoodFellas, Psycho and Memento. Among many, many, many others. Currently, I'm serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After which, I'll get my film degree from the University of Utah (subject to change) while searching for my eternal companion. Then I release my debut at the Sundance Film Festival and storm into Hollywood.

Why I am a Mormon

Put simply: I was born and raised in the church. It's blessed me with good health, good friends, a happy family, a direction and purpose in life. I've never found a legitimate reason to doubt The Book of Mormon, it's fantastic stories, memorable heroes or the principles it teaches. And of course, I love the Bible! This is the youngest yet fastest growing church on Earth and 15,000,000+ people have been blessed in various ways because of this complete gospel of Jesus Christ. That's good enough for me!

How I live my faith

A lot of good things have happened for me, and I know many great things have yet to happen for me. I can't forget who I owe that to. I live healthy and always try to surround myself in good company, Mormon or otherwise, who will always encourage me to be happy. When I'm acting or directing, I won't do any of that drug/sex/alcohol nonsense. I'm cleaner than that. At the time of creating this profile, I spend every hour of every day trying to show people the blessings that flow from everything this church has to offer. It gets real hard sometimes, and there are more days than I'd like where I just feel like throwing in the towel and coming back to achieve my lifelong dream. But I know that accomplishing that is less likely if I can't even accomplish this two-year mission. None of the scriptural heroes or any of my role models in the movies got where they are by giving it up when things got hard. What kind of man would I, or anyone, be to take the "easy" way out? "Why would we think that it would be easy for us if it was never, ever easy for Him?" --Elder Jeffery R. Holland Granted, I've never considered myself the cookie-cutter "Mike Mormon", nor do I wish to be. To strive for such perfection can drive any human insane and rob them of their very humanity. I'll be so bold as to say that my Mormon heroes include Porter Rockwell, Salt Lake Tribune humor columnist, Robert Kirby and most of all, God's Gunslinger, the "Swearing Elder" himself, J. Golden Kimball. Sue me...
