Hi I'm Garry Laugenour

I'm from San Jose, CA. I'm a skateboarder, a body surfer, a stargazer, an ice cream aficionado, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I really just love anything that has to do with a board and/or water, particularly skateboarding, surfing, body surfing, diving under waves, and tubing on lakes. I enjoy being outside, playing soccer, hiking, stargazing, and even just simply running around. Sometimes there is nothing like going back to the good old days and playing gameboy games, eating hot chocolate and toast, and having a solid water gun fight. I am happily engaged to a wonderful young lady who had no interest in dating me when we first met.... so in other words, somehow I won her over. I am studying Chemical Engineering at BYU, but I bounced around a bit beforehand to find a major that I liked. I lived in Monterrey, Mexico for two years and had a blast! I love to read, but I am a slow reader, so I usually just pop in a movie instead.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a wonderful family where the church and its principles were deeply rooted. This definitely helped me become the person I am today. It also brought many happy memories and plenty of joyful and peaceful experiences. However, there was a time when I had to decide if I believed these things to be true. The thing that stuck out most to me was the peace I felt when learning about the Lord's teachings and especially when singing the hymns in church (music is amazing). After reading the Book of Mormon and asking Heavenly Father whether it was true, I felt that peace and knew that it was not only good, but also true.

How I live my faith

I really believe that being a caring person is one of the best ways of living your faith. I love to serve people in any way I can, even if that just means giving people rides to work or taking out the trash or volunteering to help with food drives.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Garry Laugenour
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, and that means that he has done everything that we aren't able to do to make it possible to return to our Heavenly Father. This, however, doesn't eliminate our responsibility to do all that we can to make it there. This is why Christ taught us of repentance, love, and following his example. His grace makes up for when we fall short, if we are trying our best. He has paved the way, now we must follow him. Show more Show less
