Hi I'm Illia

I'm an American-born Chinese. I love learning, laughing, and eating. Oh, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an ABC (American-born Chinese) and I love embracing the mixture of the two cultures that define me. My parents were both born and raised in Hong Kong, but I was born in the US and raised in Connecticut. I am currently a college student so I, just like every other college student, struggle in financing my life, in general. I love listening to music, because I know music can have a powerful influence on one's mood. My music library ranges from alternative rock to Broadway musicals and instrumental soundtracks (Hans Zimmer for the win!). I'm a shower singer. And Christmas music before Thanksgiving is okay as long as it's after Halloween. I also love watching and analyzing films (yes, I'm THAT guy), especially if the movie has particularly astounding special effects, because I'm a sucker for special effects. Also, since I'm listing things I'd also like to mention that I like...Hugh Jackman. Yeah, that's all. And I think Leonardo DiCaprio deserves an Oscar. I also love hanging out with friends and spending time with my family. We always have a good time and I'm a true believer in "laughter is the best medicine!" It's an easy way to extend your life (easier than actual exercise) and I love taking the easy way out!

Why I am a Mormon

Everything about this church is true. There are no loopholes, not like in the movies where there's always at least one huge thing that doesn't quite match up. But this gospel makes sense. It just makes sense! This gospel answers every question that seems to be "unanswered" in our society today. What is the purpose of life? What is the key to happiness? All answered through the words of Christ through prayer, scripture study, and even personal revelation. This church only sets you up for success because if we demonstrate our faith and trust in the Lord, then we are sure to receive blessings beyond our expectations. I am a Mormon because I believe in Christ and I know that if I want to be more like Him, I need to be in His church, which is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that he was vital in bringing forth the Lord's work through the Book of Mormon. I know that the Atonement can work in our lives if we are sincere. I can only say these things with a surety because I am a Mormon. I believe in the Lord and I believe in His church.

How I live my faith

Every Sunday, I go to church to partake of the sacrament and feast upon the words of Christ. In taking the sacrament, I am reminded that I need to take upon myself the name of Christ, so that I can remember Him, and that keeping His commandments will bless me with His Spirit at all times. I go the church so I can better myself even further. I go to church so I can learn even more about Christ so I can be just like Him. At church, I'm given certain callings to carry out such as visiting teaching. Through visiting teaching I get to visit a certain member of our ward and give a little spiritual message. This member may be someone I might not have known if I were not given the calling. But, most of all, I live my faith every day. Christ did not suffer at the cross for nothing. He suffered for each and every one of us, individually. He suffered so that He could understand what each of us go through. Do you sometimes feel lonely? Inadequate? Undeserving? Well, Christ knows exactly how you feel because, believe it or not, He has experienced all of those. The Atonement does so much more in our lives than what we think. And if you learn about Christ, you'll be able to understand why He condescended to our mere human level to sacrifice Himself for our benefit.
