Hi I'm Garrett

I was born in Houston, Texas, and grew up in the Bay Area, California. I love technology, the beach, and wrestling.

About Me

Growing up in the Bay Area, I have always loved technology. I took apart and reassembled my first computer when I was 11 years old, and have been tinkering and playing with them ever since. I wrestled and did martial arts in high school, and I still love to stay active: bike riding, hiking, anything outdoors really gets me going. I was very active in Scouts growing up, and received my Eagle Scout award a few days before my 18th birthday. (whew!) I do suffer with quite a few different medical issues, including sleep apnea, emotional disorders, food allergies and severe hearing loss among other things, but as I've come to terms with my health issues and have found ways to live life without some of the luxuries that others enjoy, I've found true happiness in knowing that I am living life to the fullest.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a member of the Church, but as all kids do, as I became older I began to question the teachings of the gospel. Is God real? Was Joseph Smith really a prophet? Was the Book of Mormon really the word of God? Why did I have to go to church every week, anyways? I decided to put the challenges that my church leaders and parents had given me to the test. I prayed every night, read the Book of Mormon and prayed to God to know whether or not it was true. The most loving, sweet, powerful feeling enveloped over me, and at that time I knew that God was real, that He loved me, and that what I had been reading in the Book of Mormon was true and would help me to become closer to Jesus Christ. It hasn't all been sunshine and happy days since then, in fact I struggled a lot physically, emotionally and spiritually especially when I went away to college, but every time I turned to the Book of Mormon, I not only found solace but answers to my questions and direction to help solve my problems. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints means everything to me. It has defined and shaped my life in the most positive way I ever could have imagined. To anyone who has not been able to experience what I've just shared, I would invite them to learn and find out for themselves. Read the Book of Mormon. Attend church and associate with its wonderful members from all around the world. Ask God if this is His church, and I can promise that He will answer you, because he has answered me.

How I live my faith

Right now I am serving as a full-time missionary for the Church. It involves 24-hour, constant focus on the scriptures, the teachings of Jesus Christ, and most importantly helping to share that message to others and helping them to come to experience the same happiness and joy that I feel when I'm able to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have no paid clergy in our church, so everything that is done is by volunteer. The same is true of us as full-time missionaries; even more so, because we actually pay to be out here! It truly is rewarding, though and I wouldn't trade the experiences I've had with the Church for the world (especially so out here on a mission.)
