Hi I'm John Tallen

I haven't always been Christian, at 25 I was searching for something at several churches . Now I am a Mormon and happy!

About Me

I am a level 3 Early Childhood Educator. I moved from Kamloops, British Columbia with my beautiful wife to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. I was married in the Langley Temple and love learning about Christ as well as world views on religion. I am thankful that I have found God and learnt about Jesus as both my parents were completely against religion. I was a Drug and Substance councilor that got envolved with youth at a Pentecostal Church. From there I helped at several other churches and taught at a Christian School. Upon learning about the Book of Moromon from one of my student I asked various church leaders their opinion and soon I was left with a hard choice. My Pastor would not pray about the Church of Jesus Christ with me or Pray about the BOM so I turned to the BOM for answers. I got to Moroni 10 and after reading it accepted the invitiation I found there. I knelt down in Prayer and asked using the advice from Moroni 10-4: "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would aask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not btrue; and if ye shall ask with a csincere heart, with dreal intent, having efaith in Christ, he will fmanifest the gtruth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost." I felt a calm in my heart and knew this is where I had to be. I then learned of Joseph Smith and his similiar prayer and knew the church was true.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I knelt down in Prayer and asked Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus which Church I should join. I am Mormon because I pay tithing and I love that not a single person is paid to be in a calling or church position, the members clean the church, and funds collected go to humanitaring aid, church functions, and helping those in need. I am Mormon because I have agency and opertunity to serve the Lord to the best of my ability. I like that being a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ is an everyday event not just a Sunday thing. I know that the church is striving to have all members be Christ like but realizes we are all imperfect, we have higher standards such as choosing to follow the Word of Wisdom, and we do not ask men for the big answers in life but are asked to turn to the lord in prayer. Please pray to God in Jesus's name to know if this is true.

How I live my faith

I try to live through the guidance of the Holy Ghost and listen to what the spirit would have me do. This however does not always bring me answers I want and I tend to get caught up in the world but I have come to realize that this is God's love and the freedom or agency he has giving me. I am encouraged to ask questions to read the scriptures, pray, and fast but when I forget these things I like everyone have a gift received from Jesus Christ. I can in his name ask of his Father in Heaven, our own Spiritual Father to forgive me and for help and then I can start to live Christ like to the best of my abilities. I also seek inspiration from other members by going to church and by reading and listing to the numerous church resources.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

John Tallen
The majority of active members attend 3 hours of Church on Sunday and then throughout the week have other church realated activities. I attend my meetings Sunday, have a family night on Monday, go to Young Mens's/ Young Women's event as a leader on Tuesdays, Home teach or call members wednesday, Go to school thursday, Take friday and saturday off unless there is an activity or I am home teaching, or preparing a lesson/talk. This however seems to take nothing away from my life but rather has filled the time with purpose and good feelings. Show more Show less
