Hi I'm Karen K

I'm from Idaho and California, I am a teacher, a mother and a grandmother and I am a Mormon

About Me

I am a mother of 4 wonderful sons all in their 20's and married to a wonderful man who I am more in love with every day. Our oldest son was married in May and we became instant Grandparents and we love it, my grandson was born on my birthday and has just turned 4. He is very excited about his new sibling coming in March. Family is the most important thing in my life. Three of my four sons are now college graduates, one is now working as a Service Missionary for the Church. Work has always been a blessing in my life and I am privileged to work at a small country High School where I am able to help Students with learning disabilities. I know that my work at school is also very important as I strive to help students become part of the solution to the world's problems by being a person who gives to the world, rather than being someone who needs to be taken care of. After serving a mission, myself, in Spain, I have found throughout my life that the more I serve the more I am blessed. My missionary experience has been the catalyst for many of the biggest blessings in my life, including my profession as a Bilingual Resource Specialist.

Why I am a Mormon

I, like Nephi, in the book of Mormon, was also born of goodly parents and taught correct principles of life and salvation throughout my life. My parents taught me right from wrong and allowed me to make my own choices. This right to choose for myself is something I highly value and try to instill in my own children and those I work with. The right to make bad choices makes the good choices mean more. When I was about 8 or 9, I remember arguing with my mom that I did not want to go to Primary(weekday church for children), finally she told me I didn't have to and I went. Knowing that my good choices brought honor to my parents has been a great joy and comfort to me. Even greater joy has come as my children have made good choices and I also know that greater joy is in store for me as I continue to make good choices, and help others to make choices that will bring them lasting happiness, especially the choices that are difficult, when you do the right thing and you don't really feel like doing it. Having a foundation in the Gospel of Jesus Christ began before we were born. In addition to biblical stories and songs about Jesus, I also learned stories about golden plates, Joseph Smith praying in a grove of trees to know which church was right, and the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When I made the decision to serve a mission and was called of God, through his ordained apostles to go to Barcelona, Spain I knew the Lord loved me personally. While there I met many of God's most penitent and pure children and wanted to be extra sure that I really believed what I taught. While praying to know for myself in order to help the good people of Spain, I realized that I already knew and had known from a very early age of the veracity of the Restored Gospel. To this day my heart is filled with a special joyful feeling when I hear or ponder the Joseph Smith story, whether it be the testimony of a 5 hear old or a convert in her 80's, it is true.

How I live my faith

My husband and I currently teach together a class of 14-16 or so 5 and 6 year-olds every Sunday and serve as Temple Preparation Instructors, along with working in the Temple. In the temple we make further covenants to serve God and our fellowmen. I love to go to the temple and feel close to my maker there and have felt closer to family members who have already passed on into the next life. Service in the temple has blessed my life beyond anything I have ever known. It is a warm feeling of home, sometimes I don't really want to come back to the world. Temples are beautiful edifices and are designed to serve the same purposes as temples spoken of in the Bible. In holy temples the most sacred ceremonies unite families forever. I love it when I get to be one of God's helpers here on earth.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Karen K
In studying the Old Testament in college, Moses was one of my favorites, as he was "slow of speech". That phrase somehow made him more human to me, a real person, like me, but closer to God. I could learn from a person like that and decided he is someone I would like to know someday. Why then, wouldn't it make sense that God would love his children today and provide a real person, someone we can relate to, but who is closer to God and called of God. Someone who didn't ask to be called to be a prophet, but was called of God and was humble, yet worthy of the call. I love to hear President Monson speak and to watch his expressions as he teaches us of God's love and how we can be happy and safe today, by keeping the God's commandments and following His servants here on the earth.
