Hi I'm Jared Barton

I love my family, my friends, my life, and my God. I´m a Mormon.

About Me

I am 19 years old and I am a missionary in Argentina. I love to play basketball, play rugby, snowboard, and wakeboard. There is almost nothing better than spending my time outside in the that world God has created for me. I am very close with my family and my friends and I love them more than anything. I feel I have learned what is really important in life, and my friends and family are definitely at the top of my list. Like everyone else, I have a story, or a background that made me who I am today. More and more I am realizing the impact the gospel of Christ has on my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this Church, and grew up in it. I was baptized when I was 8 years old. But, this is not why I choose to live the standards of the Gospel, and why I choose to be Mormon. There are times when I feel God trying to help me in my life, and I ignore his help. As a missionary, sometimes I don't do everything I can to help others. But, after the day is over, and I have fallen short of becoming better than the day before, I still notice ways that God blesses me. I can still feel His love, and I know He is still there trying to help me. He wants me to have success in whatever I am doing, and even though I am not doing everything I can to have success, He is. This is but a part of my testimony. I am amazed at that love and mercy God has for me. It is a miracle to still feel His love at the end of the day. I know the God is always there for me when I am keeping His commandments, and when I try my hardest to be better. Being mormon means that I am apart of God´s kingdom on the earth. I belong to the true church of Christ, and there is no other way to recieve all that God has without belonging to His church.

How I live my faith

Right now I am a missionary serving a 2 year mission in Argentina. Everyday my companion and I study the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and we try to find people to teach and help in any way we can. I am serving a mission because there is a happiness that I have felt that comes from the living the gospel. I want to share that happiness with other people. I want them to feel an extra help and push from God. I love my savior Jesus Christ, and my Father in Heaven. I realize the sacrifice Christ made for me and how great a blessing it is to have a God that loves me enough to sacrifice His son so that I could be happy and have a chance in this life. The least I can do is give up 2 years of my life to Him and fully dedicate my time and desires to the Lord. I also try to live my faith by doing what God would want me to do, and I am trying to become who God wants me to become. When I make decisions, I try to remember what I have learned through the gospel, and always it affects my decision. I don´t always do the best, but I try hard everyday to become just a little bit better, and a little bit more like Christ. I try to be example to those around me. A lot can be said about someone just by the way you see them, and I hope that when people see me, they notice something good.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Jared Barton
As it teaches in the Bible, God always calls men to guide the people of the earth and teach them. These men are called prophets. When prophets taught the gospel, there were always people who rejected the prophets. The world became so wicked, that God took His teachings from the earth, and the people were unable to hear the word of God. A time where there is no gospel on the earth is called Apostacy. God´s son, Jesus Christ, was even a prophet. He taught with power from God, which is called the priesthood. This priesthood was important, because it gave Christ the authority, or the permission, to teach God´s teachings. Jesus Christ gave this authority to His 12 apostles. WIth this same authority, Christ, and His apostles were able to teach and baptism in the correct way, the way God has commanded. Christ established God´s church on the earth. Eventually, the people even rejected Christ and His apostles. With the death of Christ, and His apostles, the church of God, God´s authority, and teachings were once again lost. The authority of God was also taken, making it impossible for anyone to teach with the permission of God. Many people searched for truth, but could not find it, so they formed their own churches and teachings. That is why we needed a restoration, because there are many churches that teach good things, but none are the true church of God. We needed someone to restore the orginal truths and teachings of Christ that were once lost. Show more Show less
