Hi I'm Phyllis

I'm a Mom, a Mormon, a musician and I write poetry. I've lived in Utah, Colorado and Washington State.

About Me

I am a wife and a mother of six wonderful children, a grandmother and a great grandmother. This year my husband and I celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary. Family and friends are very important to me and have greatly enriched my life. I love to read books---Richard Paul Evans is one of my favorite authors. Favorite categories of books are the scriptures and books that help me learn and understand more about our Savior, Jesus Christ, and our religion; historical fiction; autobiographies and biographies; life-skills books; and children's literature. I write poetry, and I recently self-published a book of my poetry, along with stories about the poems and some stories from my life intermingled with the poetry. I love music...I play the piano, I'm a choir director, and I recently started composing. I enjoy my role as a homemaker, including cooking, baking, laundry, etc. I love spending time with our grandchildren. I love the fresh produce we grow in our garden. I love nature and am awed by the beauty of this world that God has created for us.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, initially, because I was born and raised in the church. I remain a Mormon because the Holy Ghost has testified to me that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer and that this is His Church, restored in our day through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I have a testimony that the Book of Mormon is indeed the word of God and was translated by the power of God by Joseph Smith to come forth in these latter days. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that all our scriptures contain the word of God as revealed through and recorded by his Prophets. I know that we are led by a living prophet today, President Thomas S. Monson. The gospel brings me hope and peace. Membership in the church provides a way of life for me, friends who love and support me, and counsel and guidance in every aspect of my life. Membership in the church blesses both me and my family. I am most grateful to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I actively participate in the various activities and women's organization in our church. I serve as a choir director and a visiting teacher. I regularly attend our weekly meetings and especially look forward to General Conference and Stake Conference, which are each held twice a year. I like to take advantage of special classes and seminars, including BYU Campus Education Week, to learn more about our doctrine and how to better live my religion. A highlight of my church service was serving a mission with my husband in the state of Maine.
