Hi I'm Sister Martin

I'm from Texas. I'm a Mormon. And I'm currently serving as a missionary for the Church.

About Me

I am a college student studying to be an elementary school teacher. But, I've put that on hold to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I will be serving in Argentina for 18 months, teaching the people there the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the promises embedded into the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel of Jesus Christ brings so much hope into our lives not only for the redemption of our sins through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, but the belief that families can be together forever. There isn't a happier feeling that being in a place where the Spirit can dwell. I enjoy having fellow church members who share the same standards as me and are striving for the same eternal goals as I am. While the world is trying to tear you down, members of the church build each other up. There isn't a more safe or more welcoming place than the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being an example to those around me through living righteously and making good choices. I try my best to treat others with love and kindness because I know how much God loves each of us.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Sister Martin
In a letter written by Joseph Smith, he said, "We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated ccorrectly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God." We fully accept the Bible as the word of God, but it has lost so many plain and precious truths that can only be found in the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Sister Martin
The Gospel of Jesus Christ was founded by Christ himself. However, the gospel was restored upon the earth again through Joseph Smith the prophet. Show more Show less

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

Sister Martin
If you want to become a member of the Church, then take the missionary discussions. Missionaries are called to teach the gospel and they will teach you what you need to do to develop a testimony of Jesus Christ and be baptized into his church. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Sister Martin
I never understood what grace was growing up. I thought it was something that we didn't believe in. But we do believe in it, and it is wonderful. What made me understand grace is a talk called "His Grace Is Sufficient" by Brad Wilcox. I encourage you to read or watch this talk, it changed me life. Brother Wilcox explains grace by comparing it to a child taking piano lessons. A child's mother pays for his piano lessons. She doesn't expect him to pay her back for the lessons, that price has already been payed. Instead, she expects him to practice the piano. The price of the piano lessons that the mother pays is what grace is. Grace is what we can't do for ourselves; it is the price that Christ payed for us to be able to return back to our father in heaven. We still have to practice the piano--do our best to follow and live the commandments of God. That is how we show our appreciation for Christ's gift, just like the child shows appreciation for the mother by practicing the piano. But Christ's grace is sufficient to make up what we cannot do so that we can make it back to our father. Show more Show less
