Hi I'm Alyssa

I grew up in Australia and I'm a college student, a textiles designer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a College Student studying fashion in textiles and design. I recently moved back to the states and hope to further my passion for art. I have been sewing since I was 11 years old and never stopped. I sew all sorts of garments ranging from formal gowns to pants. Last year my sister was married in the D.C. temple during the spring time and she trusted me enough to make her wedding dress! I am also a water polo player. I love swimming and being in the water, it's always refreshing. One of my favorite water sports is dragon boating. It takes a lot of team work and isn't about one person doing well but the whole team. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. Ever since then me and my mother paddle on the breast cancer dragon boat team to give hope, love, and strength to those going through hard times. There is always a sense of peace on the water that you can't get anywhere else. Its like clear glass and when you hit the water it is crisp and refreshing to the soul.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love His gospel. There is nothing that brings me greater joy then being a member of His Church. When I was the 14, I was living in Australia and knew that I had to change my surroundings. I prayed and received guidance from Heavenly Father but most importantly peace and love. I was able to reach out to other people but most importantly my faith grew. That faith continually guides me, and this gospel makes perfect sense, and I want to share that with others. I have seen how this gospel has blessed my family and given us hope during times where it seemed we had none. Through all the moments when I feel that I am alone I remember that my Heavenly father is watching over me and that has given me the strength to keep going. The power of repentance is real. When I have truly repented I have seen a change in the person I am becoming and that person who I am becoming is more Christ-like. Its only through living his gospel that I am able to become a better person and that's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my through the simple actions that I do daily: bringing a smile to someone's face, dressing modestly, and just being kind to others. One of my old church callings was President in the Young Women's class. Besides teaching and planning fun activities for us to do they came over to my house once a month to study the gospel more in depth so that we could become better individuals and women in society. We encouraged and strengthened each other, creating a bond that will last forever. Now that I am a Young Single Adult I get to see and participate in lots of weddings and often do many alterations in order to make the bridal's dress more modest. This is a lot of fun. I get to create something that someone will love forever and I get to see the joy of others.
