Hi I'm Jay Ray

I am an athlete, I am a musician, and - above all else - I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am the second child of 5 siblings. I am a returned missionary from the Tennessee Knoxville Mission. I have been fortunate enough to be born into the church, raised by good parents and taught by fantastic friends how I should live my life. I LOVE MUSIC! I have been studying music for about 14 years of my life. These years have mainly focused on the cello but have branched out into singing, piano, bass, and bass guitar. After my music, I have played many sports while growing up but I seemed to never be satisfied with what I did. My first love came along when I was a freshman in high school. I discovered Ultimate Frisbee and I instantly knew that I found something different. I have played it for 5 years now and I am rarely found without a disc in my hands or at least in the trunk of the car that I'm driving. Yet for all the love I have for Frisbee, I have become very active and competitive in the rock climbing community and I love it. A normal day at the gym ends with my fingers bleeding (only slightly) as I finish my last climb for the day. Finally, I love to see people smile, it's just a good feeling to make some one get a really genuine smile on their face. I try to make a habit of helping at least one stranger smile every day, you make a friend every time you try.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and thanks to the testimonies of powerful friends, I have come to the knowledge and surety and I've grown my own testimony that it is the only completely true church on the world today. Some people may say that I'm a Mormon because I know nothing else, that's not true. While yes, I was raised in a good family that taught me good morals and were kind enough to give me the best education I would receive, it was MY choice and decision to come and serve a mission and it is still my choice to live the way I do. I was the one who has chosen to follow what I was taught and shown in my youth because I was the one who got on my knees and prayed if it was the right thing for me to do. Someone else did not do it for me, I am LDS because I love my Father in Heaven and this way of life and this faith is what has given me the peace I have needed.

How I live my faith

While growing up in the church has helped me make decisions that have kept me close enough to what I should do, I try to live my faith just by being an example at my different work and school situations. As a mechanic, my surroundings are less than spiritually uplifting so by just being clean mouthed, people notice. Some people may say that I live this way because it was expected of me or because I am being forced to. NOPE! I am doing this because I love my Father in Heaven. I'm not a perfect person but with the help of my Savior, I can become a perfect person...eventually. I hope to be able to help others in even a small way that God has helped me through my life and perhaps I can be the tool in His hands that makes a difference in the lives of others.

What is faith?

Jay Ray
Faith is an interesting word that I can best describe as an action. To show faith is to do two things, the first of which is to believe in something, the second is to act on that belief. Many only perceive faith as believing in something, when in all reality, it is much more than that. Faith is something that people should be able to see in you because of what you are doing with your life. Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Jay Ray
The fact that it's true. While Satan would do anything to stop it, he still cannot compete with the Father who created each of our souls and has given us the divine gift of agency. Show more Show less
