Hi I'm Alison

I love a good story. I enjoy spending time with my family. I'm a Mormon

About Me

Growing up, I always had my nose in a book. There were times I got in trouble for reading too much! That's why I decided to study English in college, and I hope to write stories that other people will like to read. I also love to travel -- to see new places and try new foods. There are so many beautiful things in this world that I want to see. I especially like to travel with people I love, and create new memories with them. You don't have to go too far to create a good memory! Usually my family ends up with at least one good quote from a vacation -- something that makes us laugh and remember the fun we've had together, even years later. Music is important to me. I've enjoyed singing in choirs, both in school and in church. In high school I started to learn to play the harp -- sometimes I feel the best compliment is when someone falls asleep listening to me play. That usually means I'm playing the music well!

Why I am a Mormon

I've grown up as a Mormon, going to church with my family as long as I can remember. There have been times when I've question whether or not this was the church for me -- but I never stopped going. My church leaders taught me that it was important for me to learn for myself whether or not it was true. So I read from the scriptures, and I prayed, and I went to church. I stay in the church because it had brought me so much happiness. The world is a scary place, and there are lots of bad things that happen. Many of these bad things happen because people choose things that are not good for them, or for those around them. I have found that the way I am asked to live as a Mormon is the way that will make me happiest. I am asked to live a morally clean life, and that has kept me away from drugs, alcohol, as well as much heartache. I'm asked to help other people, and this has helped me to be less selfish and more forgiving. I have been taught that God loves me and that he wants me to be happy. He will guide us to the things that will make us happiest -- friends, careers, how we should treat our family, how we should spend our time. God knows each of us better than anyone. I try to live my life the way God wants me to, because I have felt His love for me and seen his hand in my life.

How I live my faith

Over the years I've often been involved with planning activities and events for the members of the church in our area. It's important that we get together, because that's how we make friends and support each other in our faith. When we've planned events, we try to create something that is fun and safe for everyone, where we don't have to worry about being exposed to things that don't meet our standards -- we want a place that supports clean speech and actions, kindness and friendship, and activities that help us feel uplifted. All the programs we have -- for children, youth, and adults -- they are all there so that we be unified, so that we know we're not alone. We hope that anyone seeking a place to feel acceptance and love would find it here.
